It goes without saying that clean surroundings are critical to protecting public health and preserving our environment. Creating safer communities is therefore a responsibility we all share.

This morning, I was pleased to join Management and staff of @GNPCGhana, together with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and Zoomlion Ghana to participate in the nationwide clean-up exercise in response to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama's call following the recent floods.

Caring for our environment is not something we do only on designated days. For us at GNPC, and through initiatives such as EcoMotion and our broader sustainability agenda, we continue to promote environmental responsibility and encourage our people to make a positive impact in the communities where we operate.

My appreciation goes to everyone who participated in this important exercise, and I encourage all to make this a part of our everyday habit.

Together, and through small but consistent actions, we can build cleaner, safer and healthier communities for ourselves and generations to come.

It was a humbling moment to join the UPSA Law School to honour Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata at the 2026 Honorific Lecture & Award.

Mr. Tsikata’s contribution to GNPC and to Ghana’s petroleum sector is remarkable. His leadership during the early years of the Corporation helped lay the foundation for the industry we have today.

At a time when Ghana was still exploring its potential, he led efforts that positioned the country to pursue offshore oil and gas development and build the institutional strength needed to support it.

As we continue our work to sustain production, expand our gas business, and advance new opportunities such as the Voltaian Basin, it is important to recognize the foundations on which we stand.

This occasion reminds us that progress is built over time, through leadership, vision, and service.

We extend our best wishes to the legend.

This week, I welcomed a technical delegation from @Petrobras to @GNPC for a focused engagement on strengthening cooperation between our two institutions.

Our relationship spans many years, but this visit is more about the present and the future. It’s about practical collaboration, shared priorities, and technical discussions.

There is real value in national oil companies learning from one another as we navigate an increasingly complex energy environment and I look forward to very fruitful outcomes.

Last week in Takoradi, I had the privilege of joining colleagues, partners and industry leaders at the 2025 Local Content Conference & Exhibition (#LCCE); a platform that continues to shape Ghana’s petroleum story.

In my remarks, I shared a message that is deeply personal to me; reminding all that local content is not just about percentages but about people. It is about competence, capital, and innovation coming together to create real opportunities for Ghanaians.

At @GNPCGhana, we are working to make that vision tangible through our ongoing work in the Voltaian Basin Project, the completion of the GNPC Research & Technology Centre, and the frameworks we’re building to empower local suppliers and partners.

I left Takoradi inspired by the energy, collaboration, and shared ambition in the conversations we had. I’m certain that together, we can redefine local content and revitalize our upstream sector.

Last week, I had the pleasure of opening the maiden GNPC Vendor Engagement Seminar; a forum aimed at deepening collaboration, transparency, and local participation across our energy value chain.

At GNPC, Local Content means more than just a regulatory requirement. It is, for us, a central part of our strategy to grow together with Ghanaian enterprises in a mutually beneficial partnership that ensures that our nation’s resources create real opportunities for our people, businesses, and communities.

The conversations and insights shared across compliance issues and tender best practices, including the use of GHANEPS, and the various presentations from the Petroleum Commission and Public Procurement Authority are testaments of our goal to empower Ghanaian vendors to not only participate, but to compete and lead within the upstream sector.

As we mark 40 years, I want to reiterate our commitment to creating real value for Ghanaians, building partnerships that endure and supply chains that sustain growth for now and the future.

A week ago in Accra, my chairmanship of the #APPO NOC CEOs Forum was formally confirmed at the 7th Meeting. I was honoured to receive the baton of leadership from Mr. Bienvenido Nguema Envo of Equatorial Guinea’s #GEPetrol, whose stewardship helped strengthen our collective vision.

Looking back, hosting this Forum was both a privilege and a defining moment. Our deliberations reaffirmed a shared truth: Africa’s energy future must be led by African voices, African institutions, and African resolve.

It also reminded us that our strength lies in cooperation. From infrastructure sharing to the Africa Energy Bank, Africa’s competitiveness will be secured when we stand together.

For Ghana, the occasion highlights our positioning as a hub for collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth in Africa’s petroleum sector.

I’m happy to have led on behalf of @GNPCGhana, the signing of a Promotion, Marketing and Revenue Sharing Agreement with @PetroleumGhana, led by CEO Ms. Emeafa Hardcastle.

This agreement covers the 2D seismic and geochemical data gathered under our Reconnaissance License for the Voltaian Basin Project.

The Voltaian Basin is a crucial project and with continued investment and commitment, I believe we can replicate the success of Ghana’s offshore petroleum sector right here onshore and lead this development on our own terms.

This agreement strengthens our collective resolve to unlock the full potential of the basin for Ghana, and I look forward to the opportunities this partnership will create for the sector and the people of Ghana.

This week, our nation is struck by a tragedy that has left us all shaken and heartbroken.

As Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), I extend our deepest sympathies to the families, institutions, and all Ghanaians affected by the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State, other senior public officials, and three gallant officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.

These were patriots who responded to a call of duty and paid the ultimate price in service to Ghana.

We mourn them. We honour them. We stand with the nation in grief.

Statement of Condolence on the Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is deeply saddened by the tragic crash of the Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter on Wednesday, which claimed the lives of distinguished public servants and gallant Air Force personnel.

We mourn the untimely passing of the Honourable Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Honourable Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, as well as the dedicated officials who accompanied them in responding to a call of duty in service to our nation — Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate.

We also extend our deepest condolences to the Ghana Armed Forces for the loss of the three brave officers who gave their lives in the line of service — Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo. Their commitment and sacrifice will forever remain in the heart of a grateful nation.

GNPC stands in solemn solidarity with the bereaved families, His Excellency the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana, the Armed Forces, and the entire nation during this difficult time. As we collectively grieve this profound loss, we find strength in the selfless example these patriots have set, reminding us of the courage, dedication, and service that defines our journey as a people.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.

Today, I join many across Ghana in celebrating a towering figure in our nation’s legal and energy history — Tsatsu Tsikata Esq.

His pioneering work in gas-to-power initiatives, securing offshore drilling assets, advancing energy research, building local capacity, and investing in industries that strengthened Ghana’s economy has left an enduring mark.

As someone who had the privilege of following in his footsteps at GNPC, I am reminded that the foundation we build today will define the possibilities of tomorrow. Mr. Tsikata’s vision turned GNPC into a catalyst for national transformation — one that invested not just in projects, but in people.

On behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of GNPC, I say Ayekoo for 50 years of impact, leadership, and service to Ghana.

Here’s to legacies that inspire, and to the work we continue so the next generation can stand on even stronger ground.

“Strong institutions are built on strong governance.”

I had the privilege of chairing the inauguration of @GNPCGhana’s new Audit Committee, with the Acting Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr. Thomas Ashaley Thompson-Aryee, officiating.

This Committee, chaired by Mr. Benjamin Sowah Adjetey, will play a critical role in strengthening our accountability, transparency, and oversight — values that are central to GNPC’s brand and our mandate as Ghana’s National Oil Company.

As I told the gathering, the institution of this Committee, far more than just satisfying a statutory requirement, is an opportunity to resolve recurring audit issues, set new benchmarks for good governance, and position GNPC as a model among public sector entities.

Management will give the Committee its full support, and I am confident their work will add measurable value to our operations as we continue work together to make GNPC a star performer in the public sector space.

I had the honour of receiving Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, and her team at GNPC for a working visit. Our discussions centred on strengthening collaboration and aligning reform efforts to drive institutional growth and national development.

I shared insights into GNPC’s operational direction, including our bold steps in the Voltaian Basin Project, where we are independently advancing exploratory works with high confidence and over $160 million invested to date. We also explored how GNPC is leveraging innovation, partnerships, and technology—including AI—to arrest the national production decline and secure Ghana’s energy future.

With our affirmed mutual commitment to transparency, gender inclusion, and impactful reforms, I have no doubts that such cross-sector engagements will continue to be a part of building institutions that work smarter, serve better, and deliver lasting impact for all Ghanaians.

The oil and gas sector remains a critical pillar of Ghana’s economy, yet we are confronted with unprecedented challenges. Declining production, investment hesitancy, and shifting global energy priorities demand that we adopt a fresh and more innovative approach to exploration.

At the recently concluded Africa Energies Summit 2025, I emphasized the need for Ghana to rethink its strategies to secure a sustainable energy future. The reality is stark: traditional methods will no longer suffice. To reverse our current trend, we must embrace innovation not only in technology but also in how we approach partnerships, investments, and policy frameworks.
