By making changes to our Planning Code & waiving unnecessary fees, we're helping make it easier for small businesses to start & operate in San Francisco. Nearly 200 new businesses are created in SF each week and we want our City to be a place for entrepreneurs to lay their roots.
Our strategies to improve safety and cleanliness on Mission Street are working.
Since putting a street vending moratorium in place to address the challenges around unpermitted vending, we’ve seen a 30% decrease in assaults & robberies. Businesses surveyed feel safer & cleaner.
Property crime in SF is down. We are seeing real results from our work on public safety. To continue this trend we need to:
•Continue strong coordination with federal & state agencies
•Give our officers access to more technology
•Build on our academy recruitment efforts
Since First Year Free started in 2021, 5,991 businesses have enrolled in the program. With FYF, Billie Wannajaro opened her new business, Hed VeryThai, in Union Square. We’re making it easier to open a small business by waiving first-year permits & initial registration fees.
This work was part of our efforts that is helping us to bring people indoors and reduce tents on our streets. Between July 2023 and November 2023, we saw a 17% reduction in tents. We’ve got more work to do, and we are working hard to build on this. https://t.co/BJR3lFrUkn
Our encampment teams are helping people off the street and keeping our neighborhoods clean. They are making a difference.
In 2023, they helped over 1,500 people from encampments into shelter or housing - up 22% compared to 2022.
San Francisco is all dressed up for the holidays and there are so many exciting events happening across the City that really highlight the spirit of our thriving neighborhoods. Go out and support our local artists, vendors, and small businesses.
On Tuesday, Mission District Officers were in an operation with SFPD Burglary/Fencing Officers regarding complaints of theft at Walgreens at 23rd/Mission. During the operation, 8 individuals were arrested in multiple incidents. All property was recovered and returned. @SFPD
