We will be live at 6 PM ET to give further takeaways and react to an insane Week 2:
- Ohio State vs Texas
- Oklahoma vs Michigan
- Oregon vs Oklahoma State
- Kamario Taylor balling out
- Texas' biggest win in years?
Come watch and hit the bell: https://t.co/gijdzEEXcy
1) Curt Cignetti
2) Kirby Smart
3) Ryan Day
4) Lincoln Riley
5) Marcus Freeman
... *even more space* 6) Deion Sanders
Michigan's internal cancer would not align with Freeman at all. The top 4 are close, but I would sort them by how I would rank each coach, and then the Texas job is just that good.
A corollary - a team taking only highly rated players is probably a sign of a staff that doesn't evaluate well.
The best coaches are going to find guys who are underrated by services, and thus have lower NIL costs, to fit more high-quality players on the same roster.
NEW: The number of non-playoff bowls will diminish with a 24-team CFP, and bowl directors with Bowl Season ED Nick Carparelli are meeting today to figure out a plan, @Brett_McMurphy reports.
"How do we reinvent the bowl system?" a conference official said.

College football has a serious case of tunnel vision. And apparently, we still haven’t learned.
2024 Ohio State: Written off after losing to Michigan → National Champions.
2025 Miami: Written off after losing to SMU → Played for a National Championship.
2026: Somewhere out there is a team everyone has already written off.
Maybe it’s time we stop confusing a bad loss with a bad team.
That win for BYU was also a win for the Big 12. On my show with @KristopherDrew_ today, which will be my final video of the week (sorry guys, burned out), I have three Big 12 teams in my CFP bracket.
💜 BIG NEWS FOR CLARK! 💜
We got Clark’s AAV9 antibody test results back today, and THEY WERE NEGATIVE!! 🙌😭💜
This is a huge step forward in our journey toward gene therapy! His geneticist and her amazing team at the University of Michigan are moving forward with the next steps of getting insurance pre-approval for the treatment!
If all goes well on the insurance end, we’re hopeful that Clark could be receiving gene therapy very soon! 🤞💜
We know there’s still a road ahead of us, but today we have another reason to be hopeful. Every step forward brings us closer to giving Clark the best possible chance at a future that Sanfilippo might otherwise try to take away from him.
Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for Clark, support our family, and follow his journey. We’re not giving up, and we’re going to keep fighting for our boy every step of the way!
We are going to save you sweet boy 💜
Nebraska during Matt Rhule's tenure:
ESPN FPI:
2023: 58th
2024: 38th
2025: 46th
2026: 15th
Oregon and Indiana were both favored by more than a TD over Nebraska, and Nebraska should have/could have won the game
But yeah, let's fire the guy
Been preaching for years that 20-25% of Top 25 games are upsets every week - like clockwork.
Last week: 5 of 15 games were upsets including three double digit dogs.
And that doesn’t include Miami going OT with Florida State and Ohio State lucking out at IU.
@goehring_seth I haven't seen the second sentence much, but it is on point. Hoover had a higher QBR only because his interceptions weren't caught (though Sayin also dropped a pick or two).
Haines and Patricia put both in blenders.
Early read on Indiana compared to last year:
DL is filthy, so gotta protect still skinny Tommy.
Right side of OL not good.
Top 2 receivers studs. TEs a downgrade.
Back 7 on defense good, but not what it was.
Hoover a turnover magnet at TCU, but no picks so far.
Ryan Day on the radio tonight re: Julian Sayin: "It'll be at least several weeks. No update right now. They're still going through testing and meetings."
@Brentonmfender@andyrobinplays@itsTheBeaves It's the staff's job but given the history of Indiana and the fact that you can't bring a rosters BCR from like 3% to 70% in 3 seasons... I would say Cignetti has done an elite job at roster building.
You can see Cignetti's impact in this tweet.
My entire life, I have heard Ohio State fans tell Michigan fans that Michigan would never beat them or compete with them because Ohio State has inherently superior recruiting.
Now, what, just anyone can have Ohio State's roster? Recruiting still matters, and history (especially the gap between OSU and IU there) still matters. It's going to take time for kids to become partial to Indiana on a large scale the way they are to Ohio State.
If you flipped Indiana and Ohio State's history, I'm positive Ryan Day wouldn't have Jeremiah Smith or Jay Timmons. He would do better at Indiana than a lot of fans would give him credit for, but there is so much more than just what the staff does that determines recruiting.
There are arguments that Day is superior to Cig. The "They can choose their roster and Day is 100x the roster builder" is probably the worst one out there.
