With all that being said, thank you @CesarAzpi for everything. A true legend of the game and someone that will never be forgotten by myself and Chelsea fans. Enjoy retirement and all that life has to offer! #OnceABlueAlwaysABlue
Growing up in America, I never watched football until I was a teenager who caught World Cup fever in 2010. Becoming a chelsea fan in the following years, it was easy to watch the likes of Lampard, Terry, Drogba, etc. and be in awe of their skill, strength, and leadershipโฆ (cont)
Dear football,
Today, I want to share with you that this season will be my last as a professional footballer. After so many years living my dream, I feel itโs time to start a new chapter in my life.
Being honest, even though I have been preparing myself for this moment, I found it hard to write this letter. After 20 seasons , many people have played an important role in my career.
When I first kicked a ball as a child in Pamplona with my schoolmates, I never imagined the amazing journey ahead. Iโm grateful for every moment: the wins, the tough losses, the challenges, and most of all, the people Iโve met and the friendships Iโve made along the way.
To my teammates, coaches, and every staff member at all the clubs Iโve been lucky to be part of, thank you for helping me grow as a person and a player every day. Wearing the shirts of CA Osasuna, Olympique Marseille, Chelsea FC, Atlรฉtico de Madrid, Sevilla FC, and representing my country at the biggest stages has been a true privilege. Every moment has meant so much to meโฆ
In a day & age of sport where loyalty and integrity are about as rare are as a London rival winning a trophy, Azpi carried those traits in spades & it taught me a lot going through some formative years in my life. Iโd give my left arm for some of that in todayโs Chelsea squad.
No accountability from this ownership about how badly their project is failing. Theyโll just brief another journalist nonsense to try and cover their own backs. Theyโre running our football club infront of all our eyes
Chelsea added 2 LWs, 2 STs, 1 RW this summer and yet missing out on one Bundesliga attacker - of which the club has repeatedly been burned on in the last 5 years - has sent half the fan base on this app into a meltdownโฆ
@CFCPys@CFCDaily @UtdRyan_ @TheSecretScout_ Think the board wants to avoid having to renegotiate contracts every couple years. If Caicedo were to sign a 5 year deal, theyโd have to renegotiate 3 years in so they can sell with 2years remaining to avoid players getting into the last year of their deals and diminishing value
At different stages of his Chelsea career, Cesar Azpilicueta could credibly claim to be the best RB *and* the best LB in the Premier League. He also won the title as a CB.
From August 2015 to May 2020 he missed FOUR of Chelseaโs 190 league games.
He cost ยฃ7 million. #CFC
Itโs unreal how much standing around our players do in Lampardโs โsystemโ with no off-ball press whatsoeverโฆ and yet we still have no runners going forward on attacking plays like this
