Here's the perfect example. This ultimately won Arsenal three huge points on the opening weekend of the Premier League. From start to finish of the season, there is a confusing lack of consistency in how the game is officiated. Rules aren't this flexible.

All season long Arsenal have been crowding the goalkeeper on set-pieces, pushing, shoving, blocking – it’s been their main tactic from day one. We saw it clear as day against us at Old Trafford when Saliba backed straight into Bayindir, stopped him from making a proper save, and they nicked a goal through Calafiori. Nothing given. Not a murmur. But now, in a massive title-deciding match against West Ham, when it doesn’t suit them... suddenly it’s a foul on Raya? Are you kidding me?

What the hell are we even watching in this league anymore? It’s shameless, it’s embarrassing. At this rate just hand the title and the trophy over to Arsenal now, because it’s glaringly obvious what they’re trying to pull. Total, utter disgrace."

PGMOL’s top referee Chris Kavanagh is having a nightmare of a game in Everton vs Liverpool.

1. Deliberately chose not to book Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch.

2. Booked Jordan Pickford for dissent, but not Dominik Szoboszlai despite him pointing in the referee’s face.

3. Failed to control the game, allowing players to crowd and confront each other.

4. Fell for players going down easily to win free-kicks.

5. Ndiaye brushed Szoboszlai’s hair — arguably more severe than Martínez’s incident — yet no action was taken.

🗣️ “This is exactly what frustrates everyone about officiating right now. Lisandro Martínez barely touches Calvert Lewin’s hair and VAR steps in — red card, game changed.

Today, in the Brentford vs Fulham match, Bassey’s hair is clearly pulled — nothing. No foul, no yellow, not even a VAR check.

How can players understand the rules when the same action gets two completely different outcomes? One is called violent conduct, the other isn’t even a foul. That’s not consistency, that’s confusion.

Manchester United are now going to Stamford Bridge without some of their key defenders. If they lose tonight, people will talk about performance, but this started with bad officiating in the Premier League.

Either both are red cards, or neither is. You cannot punish one and ignore the other. Right now, it just looks like the rules change depending on the game — and if United drop points tonight, the FA has to take responsibility for putting them in this situation.”
