Heard around Writing Circle: A member announced her trip to Africa. Someone else chimed in about Jodi Picoult's book about elephants. Memories spun out about Queen Tut, the mama elephant who reigned from 1920's to 1964 at Forest Park Zoo.

We finished up "Midsummer Memoir Workshop" Saturday with a strong "gaggle" of gals mining their histories for the story or stories to write, theirs or their family's. I loved the eagerness they followed some goofy exercises, but doing it eagerly and experiencing the results.

A nifty quote from Ernest Hemingway:
“There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
If he hadn't used the word "loyal" I'd quibble with
that sentiment. Loyalty conjures up an "always there" image for me and people just can't do that aways. Hmmm. And yet, books are great companions.
