So, I built myself a data cleaning checklist. Ten steps I follow every single time I touch a new dataset. It saved me time and my sanity too.

Here you go:

1. Removing Duplicate Records
Delete repeated rows that appear more than once in the dataset.

Task:
➔ Identify duplicates
➔ Remove or merge them

2. Handling Missing Values
Fix or fill empty cells in your data.

Methods:
➔ Delete rows with too many missing values
➔ Fill with mean/median/mode
➔ Use forward/backward fill

3. Correcting Inconsistent Data
Fix entries that refer to the same thing but are written differently.

Examples:
➔ “Male,” “M,” “male” → should all be the same
➔ “Nigeria,” “NG,” “NGA” → should be standardized

4. Standardizing Data Formats
Ensure all data follows the same format.

Examples:
➔ Dates (DD/MM/YYYY vs. MM/DD/YYYY)
➔ Phone numbers with or without country codes
➔ Currency formats

5. Fixing Data Entry Errors
Correct mistakes caused by human typing errors.

Examples:
➔ 20205 instead of 2020
➔ “Femael” instead of “Female”
➔ “Abjua” instead of “Abuja”

6. Handling Outliers
Identify values that are extremely unusual compared to others.

Tasks:
➔ Check if outliers are errors or real
➔ Remove or cap them if necessary

7. Filtering Irrelevant Data
Remove columns or rows that are not needed for the analysis.

Examples:
➔ Dropping “Middle Name” if it’s not needed
➔ Removing test rows

8. Data Type Correction
Fix incorrect column data types.

Examples:
➔ Text stored as numbers
➔ Numbers stored as text
➔ Dates stored as text

9. Data Normalization
Adjust values to be on the same scale or format.

Examples:
➔ Converting all heights to meters
➔ Scaling large numbers for models

10. Data Validation
Check if the cleaned data is accurate, logical, and ready for analysis.

Tasks:
➔ Re-check missing values
➔ Verify totals
➔ Confirm categories

If you're starting out in data analytics, here's what nobody tells you (but I will).

This will save you time, stress and wasted effort.

1. Learn Excel before you touch Python
I know, I know. Python sounds cooler. Everyone's posting about it on LinkedIn.
But 80% of entry-level data roles still use Excel daily. Pivot tables, XLOOKUP, conditional formatting, all of it. And that's how you actually start making money.

The plan is to get hired first, you can always learn Python later.

2. You don't need to know everything
I wish somebody told me this when I started. I delayed applying for jobs for months because I thought I wasn't ready. I thought I needed to master R, Python, Tableau, Power BI, SQL, and statistics.
Then I saw the job description for a role I wanted: "Basic SQL and Excel required."
That's it.

I had been overcomplicating things. Most beginner roles need foundational skills done well, not surface-level knowledge of everything.

3. Tutorials won’t make you good, projects will.
This will save you loads of stress. I was busy jumping from one YouTube video to another. Things changed when I picked a dataset and tried to solve a real problem with it. That’s where the growth hides.

4. Job descriptions are written to scare you.
I avoided so many roles because I felt unqualified. Later, I discovered companies post wish lists, not real expectations. If you can do 50–60% of what they ask, you’re already in the range.

5. Your mindset will matter more than your tools.
Excel didn’t frustrate me as much as my impatience did. The moment I relaxed and allowed myself to enjoy learning, everything became lighter.

That’s it.

Exposing the Truth: Standing Firm Against Fake Yescoin Scammers

Recently, we have witnessed many community members mistakenly joining the so-called "White Yescoin" project, believing it to be the official Yescoin due to their trust in us. Unfortunately, this has led to wasted time, lost points, and misled partners. Numerous KOLs and partners have also fallen victim, losing money due to their involvement with White Yescoin. Instead of focusing on developing a quality product, Fake Yescoin has chosen a path of deception, imitation, and malicious attacks. Today, we break our silence and expose the truth about these scammers who have been masquerading as Yescoin. What they are offering is not Yescoin, but a fraud—a fake entity engaging in unethical competition, trampling on the interests of our players.

We have repeatedly warned our players to be vigilant against these unscrupulous impersonators, and we have issued official alerts to this effect:

The scam orchestrated by Fake Yescoin has been premeditated for some time; they are repeat offenders, and we are not their first victims—nor will we be the last. Fake Yescoin registered our trademark and logo in an obscure jurisdiction and has been using these to harass us and our partners, aiming to hinder our growth. We have previously voiced our protest against these actions: https://t.co/0D8fCo4ctP.

Before impersonating Yescoin, Fake Yescoin had already faked @notcoin and @ton_blockchain , disrupting the ecosystem. It is difficult to see how such actions could bring any positive impact to our environment—clearly, they have not. A good project should bring long-term value to users and the ecosystem, and we welcome strong, legitimate projects to join us in building the industry. However, the malicious behavior of Fake Yescoin has made this impossible. They have harassed our partners, threatened our community moderators, intimidated our ambassadors, and even launched relentless DDOS attacks against us. This is not healthy competition, and we can no longer remain silent. This is not only irresponsible towards our loyal players and partners but also detrimental to the industry's growth. We recognize that we are not the first project to be imitated, nor will we be the last to be harmed. As more and more players and partners report their losses due to Fake Yescoin and ask for our help, we realize that it is time to take a stand. If we do not expose these scams now, more people will fall victim in the future. Today, we make a strong call to protect our community.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to those players and partners who have silently supported us during this challenging time. You are the heroes of Yescoin, and your support gives us the strength to continue our fight. We stand firm, united, and committed to building a fair and transparent crypto ecosystem.
