We thoroughly enjoyed speaking to Baroness Grey Thompson last week. Her unique perspective on the role of the House of Lords has given our students lots to think about!
It was a fantastic session on Friday in A Level Politics for our Y13 and selected Y11 students! 'Learn with the Lords' gave them the opportunity to put their questions to Baroness @Tanni_GT. What an incredible lady; inspirational, passionate, patient and full of unique insight!
ATTENTION YEAR 11 📣 The RE GCSE begins on Monday and Mrs Williams and Mrs Eckersley are running revision sessions this weekend. Check the picture for details.
Today our History Scholars did brilliant research into our house’s first known resident, Sgt. Alfred Jeffs. They discovered that Alfred served in Mauritius and the Cape of Good Hope before being discharged from the forces due to ‘opacity of the cornea’.
Using the Cheshire Tithe Maps, we know our house must have been built after 1840. We’re searching more maps and census data next week to find out about the inhabitants. Fantastic efforts from our scholars tonight.
The History Scholars Programme met for the first time tonight. We watched a bit of A House Through Time and started to explore the area around our house on Howey Lane using a 1908 map. We have discovered a nearby church, schools and fustian mills!
The History Scholars Programme starts next Tuesday, and our Year 9s are looking forward to starting their own House Through Time project. @DavidOlusoga do you have any top research tips for our young historians? They would love to hear from you.
A huge thank you to our CHS community for the interest we have had in our ‘House Through Time’ project. Miss Bennett and Mr Fryer have had a job on their hands choosing a house! Can’t wait to get started after half term.
We have been loving C4’s ‘A House Through Time.’ We would love to complete our own version in the new KS3 History Scholars Programme. If your house is in or near Congleton, over 100 years old, and you are willing for us to study it’s previous inhabitants contact Miss Bennett!
Mr Barlow is currently judging our Year 7 Castle Project competition. We’ve got some incredibly impressive work here! Winners will be announced on Friday.
