In 2023, Irish ports played a critical role in supporting Ireland's economy, handling 47.6 million tonnes of goods vital for trade and supply chains. Of this total, 15.4 million tonnes were exported, while 32.1 million tonnes of goods arrived to meet domestic needs.

As an island nation, Ireland relies on its ports for importing essential goods, from raw materials to consumer products, and for exporting Irish-made goods to global markets.
