📍 #FreeRuth | Outside the United States Capitol, civil society organizations and human rights advocates gathered to demand the release of Ruth López.
Opening the solidarity vigil this afternoon were Congressman Jim McGovern (@RepMcGovern) and Kerry Kennedy (@KerryKennedyRFK), president of the Robert and Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center, both of whom have spoken out in support of Ruth and the need to defend human rights and the rule of law in El Salvador.
One year after her arbitrary detention, the international movement demanding justice for Ruth continues to grow.
El Salvador 🇸🇻| Ruth López lleva un año injustamente detenida.
Las autoridades salvadoreñas deben garantizarle un juicio pronto, público y justo, levantar la reserva judicial del caso, y permitir contacto regular con su familia y sus abogados.

June 1 marks 2 years since the inauguration of Nayib Bukele’s unconstitutional second presidential term which was kicked off through the political imprisonment of 10 civil war veterans who remain in prison without trial. #LibertadParaPepe#LibertadParaLuienjivar ✊🏽
The Bukele government argues that the removal will help bring investment and more employment to the country, organized workers say the ILO short list remains one of the only mechanisms that Salvadoran workers and organized labor can turn to to hold the government to account.
This week Nayib Bukele’s government launched a campaign to promote the removal of the country from the International Labor Organization (ILO) “short list,” rather than working to address the widespread and increasing violations to workers rights under its mandate.
While some unions head to Geneva to accompany the Minister of Labor at 114th session of the International Labour Conference taking place from June 1-12, many others denounce the move 👇🏼
@Cristosal denounces the head of Bukele’s Nuevas Ideas’ party legislative block using false images and their organizations logo to smear their organization.
“This attack is an example of the smear campaign that organizations and human rights defenders face daily in El Salvador.”
This morning, with mass trials underway in El Salvador (after four years without hearings or trials and denial of near all communication with loved ones/legal defense), @MTD_OficialSV gathered outside of the public defenders’ office to demand answers ➡️ https://t.co/FdYTBeFbhi
We join in recognizing and uplifting the love of the mothers of those unjustly imprisoned under El Salvador’s State of Exception and who have taken to the streets for over four years to fight for freedom and justice.
