#sapsGP [POLICE ARREST SUSPECT AND RECOVER HIJACKED VEHICLES AND SUSPECTED EXPLOSIVES IN SILVERTON]
An intelligence-driven operation led by #SAPS Crime Intelligence, with the support of the Gauteng Highway Patrol, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) Tshwane, resulted in the arrest of a 69-year-old suspect and the recovery of hijacked vehicles and suspected explosives in Silverton, Pretoria.
On Wednesday, 03/06 at approximately 06:30, Crime Intelligence received information about a possible cash-in-transit robbery allegedly being planned in the Pretoria area.
The information was operationalised, and members worked closely with Tshwane District Crime Intelligence as part of ongoing investigations into a criminal group suspected of planning cash-in-transit robberies across Gauteng.
Following further intelligence gathering, an operational team was deployed to a property in Silverton. Upon arrival, police searched the premises and recovered two vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota Fortuner, both fitted with false registration plates. Further investigation revealed that the Mercedes-Benz had been reported stolen in the Villieria policing precinct, while the Toyota Fortuner had been reported stolen in the Hartbeespoort policing area. During the search, members recovered a five-litre container filled with petrol inside the Mercedes-Benz. Police also searched a white Toyota Quantum parked on the premises, where a bag containing suspected explosives was discovered and seized for forensic analysis.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered vehicles may have been used in several cash-in-transit robberies and attempted robberies across Gauteng, including an attempted cash-in-transit robbery in Silverton on 30 May 2026.
A 69-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon on charges relating to the possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles and possession of suspected explosives. Additional charges may be added as investigations continue. ST #FightingCrime #TrioCrimes #PartnershipPolicing #PoliceVisibility

#sapsFS [FREE STATE SAPS RECOVER STOLEN CIT MONEY, ARREST TWO CIT ROBBERS WITHIN THREE HOURS OF COMMISSION OF CRIME]
The #SAPS Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Solomon Lesia, has applauded a multidisciplinary team led by Crime Intelligence for the successful arrest of two wanted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery suspects and the recovery of stolen money following a cross pavement robbery in Welkom.
The incident occurred at Cash and Carry in Welkom when security officers were collecting money from the store on Saturday, 23/05, at around 12:40.
The security guards were allegedly accosted by six armed suspects who forced them to lie down before ordering them to open the cash van. The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, three firearms belonging to the security officers, bulletproof vests and a hand radio.
Following the incident, Free State Crime Intelligence gathered information on the whereabouts of the suspects and mobilised members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the Public Order Policing (POP) unit.
Police operationalised the information and traced the suspects to a house in Welkom at around 15:00. Upon arrival, a shootout ensued between police and the suspects. Some of the suspects managed to flee the scene, while two known CIT armed robbery suspects were arrested.
During the operation, police recovered an undisclosed amount of stolen money as well as other items linked to the robbery.
Lt Gen Solomon Lesia commended the multidisciplinary team for their swift response and intelligence-driven operation.
“These arrests demonstrate the importance of intelligence-led policing and coordinated operational responses. We commend all members involved for their bravery and commitment. Those suspects who managed to escape arrest are being pursued and it is only a matter of time before they are brought to justice,” said Lt Gen Lesia.
The two suspects are expected to appear before court soon on charges relating to armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of suspected stolen property. #FightingCrime ST
