@EddieComeaux@UCLALawReview@DrUJayakumar I think it is hypocritical that these racial-neatral admission policies created an advantage for white people rather than minorities. The whole point of these policies is to help create diversity and equal opportunity for all ethnicities.
@Afrancooly@KatryaLy It's sad to see their underlying intentions for who they're trying to get admitted and who they're trying to exclude. More awareness should be spread to create reform. @TA_ED50
@trinbans @KatryaLy I agree that it should be fair and equal for all students to get into a school, regardless of ethnicity. However, the statistics are telling us otherwise. Mostly, whites are the ones that are getting accepted and popularizing certain universities.
@TA_ED50
Studies show that Harvard and other Ivy League universities will likely give athletic talents more consideration in the admission process than other selective private universities. Apart from this, they also discovered that most of these people were white.

@lisscastrom@abhornUCRedu I think it is a little excessive for organizations to control athletes' social media. Their personal lives should be a separate matter from the sport that they are associated with unless it's something extreme that'll hurt the brand of the team.
@TA_ED50
@annette_are@TA_ED50 I think it is really unfair that they are put in that situation. Big organizations like the NCAA take advantage of up and coming athletes and sign them into unfair contracts where they get exploited.
@TA_ED50
It is unfair to think that the NCAA controls and imposes rules on athletes regarding their names and images. There have been many lawsuits because of this. Unfair contracts are put in place in order for the NCAA to maximize their profits from athletes.

@jmart758@TA_ED50 Title IX has broken down so many barriers that were holding back female scholars/athletes. With bigger allocated budgets, females now have equal and fair opportunities.
@TA_ED50
@emilyVM723@abhornUCRedu Title IX is a great start, but it may not fix all equality issues within schools. I think certain people might be against it because they compare men's sport revenue vs women's sport revenue. These people might feel that the investment in female sports isn't worth it.
@TA_ED50
By prohibiting schools from treating students differently on the basis of sex, Title IX allows both men and women to equally take advantage of any course of study regardless of gender stereotypes about traditionally “male” or “female” coursework or professions.
#UCR50@TA_ED50
@lisscastrom@abhornUCRedu The NCAA needs to better promote awareness for women representation in sports. A good way to do this is by posting and promoting these female teams on various social media pages.
@TA_ED50
@alpxrzj@abhornUCRedu I agree, the NCAA needs to spread awareness of inequality within the sports climate. They need to origanize and implement ways to provide more opportunities for minority groups to enter and participate in sports.
@TA_ED50
There is an ongoing debate on the underrepresentation of minority head football coaches within schools. As a result of this, the NCAA has to ensure that more opportunities for these positions are to be offered to blacks and other racicial/ethnic minorities.

@Mariaplasmerc@abhornUCRedu It is very crucial that student athletes are not pressured to the extreme. If they are, then they might be found adopting very unhealthy habits. Each college sports team should have a psychologist or at least access to one in case they need help.
@TA_ED50
@NingWei0808008@TA_ED50 Athletes are always under immense pressure to perform. I think the best possible solution for this situation is to have strong communication between coaches and athletes. The effects of this drugs should also be discussed amongst the sports community.
From working 20 hours a week in sports and trying to do school, it makes them hard to make genuine relationships with non athletes. Sports seems to become their number 1 priority above all else.
#UCR50@TA_ED50
The "loneliness of being part of a team" is astonishing. It may seem that student athletes are popular and constantly surrounded with people, but actually, a lot of them may feel isolated. They have intense pressure from coaches while juggling schoolwork.
@jsulbn@TA_ED50 That's a very good question and I agree, it's difficult for athletes to find that perfect balance between sports and schoolwork. Extra benefits and resources should be implemented in order to make their load less burdensome and more efficient.
@izyyybel01@TA_ED50 I do believe being a student athlete can be very difficult. I have a friends that's a student athlete and she is constantly being stressed out between practice, games and homework. Without a proper outlet or discipline, they can easily fall behind in school.
If governed and controlled properly, intercollegiate athletics can serve as a bridge that connects the university to the community, provide opportunities for students to receive a quality education and develop character, and unite the campus community around a common goal.
