Now imagine how amazing Poland 🇵🇱 would be today if it were not destroyed by Germany 🇩🇪 during the Second World War.
A country of perhaps 50–60 million people. One of Europe’s largest industrial powers. Warsaw as a major financial and technological capital. Polish automotive, aerospace, chemical, pharmaceutical and electronics giants built over generations instead of starting from scratch after 1989.
Universities with uninterrupted schools of mathematics, physics, engineering and medicine. Polish capital funding Polish industry. Domestic companies expanding across Europe instead of being acquired by foreign groups.
High-speed rail, dense infrastructure, richer cities, stronger armed forces, a much larger internal market and far greater political weight inside Europe.
Basically: take today’s Poland, remove the destruction of its cities, the extermination of millions, the elimination of its elites and 45 years of communist economic isolation — then add eighty years of uninterrupted technological and capital accumulation.
The result would probably be one of the most powerful countries in Europe.

Palantir sells governments a war room that costs millions a year.
So, a guy named Elie just rebuilt it, put it on GitHub, and gave it away.
It's called World Monitor.
Open it and you get a live 3D globe with 500+ news feeds pouring in across 15 categories, all summarized by AI as they land.

Beef Cattle currently cost $2000’ish for a calf at 500lbs. You have to feed it 25 lbs of hay per day for 30 months when it is ready to harvest. That’s (9,100 lbs / 900 lbs per bale, for 30 months) 304 bales total at a cost of $1,700. NO OTHER costs, I’m into the cow for $3,700 at 1400lbs full grown. I gross approx 450 lbs of meat. Thats $8.23 cents a pound., in the box.
In this equation there are:
No slaughter costs
No operating costs
No vet/transport costs
No land/property taxes/insurances
No upkeep
No diesel
No seed for the fields
No fencing
No labor, no profit for us working 365 days a year. (Yes, cows eat on holidays)
Nothing!!
For sake of argument, let’s say all these above costs are offset by selling my “premium cuts”, (which isn’t even close….BUT….lets just say for this exercise, it did.
$8.22 a pound.
Now: Please tell me how ground beef I can buy for $7-8 in the store with that retail store making a profit? They have to keep their doors open to. Let’s call it a 25% profit margin (and that’s LOW). That’s them buying ground at $5/$6.
I’ll let y’all form your own conclusions about how this is done. You CUT corners. Period, end of story. Ain’t no other way round it. Next time you buy beef, remember this very basic math and ask yourself what exactly you are putting in your body for $7-8 bucks.
Do yourself a favor and establish a relationship with your local rancher/farmer that you KNOW doesn’t cut corners AND works their brains out 365 days a year just trying to do the right thing to better their community. 🙏🥩🇺🇸
Sicily has a four-legged early warning system for Mount Etna. It has a beard, it eats gorse, and it is beating several million euros of monitoring equipment by half a day.
The shepherds have known this for as long as anyone has kept goats on that mountain. The herd tells you. No drama about it, no bleating, no rearing up and pointing at the summit. They simply decline to go up the hill that morning, and if the goats will not go up, neither do you. Oldest volcano warning system in Europe. Costs nothing. Runs on scrub.
For most of history the scientific response to this has been a polite nod and a change of subject.
Then in 2011 a German turned up with a box of trackers.
Martin Wikelski of the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour has an unfashionable habit of asking local people what they already know before deciding they are simple. He collared goats living year-round on the slopes and started logging where they went, and when, and how fast.
On 4 January 2012 the data went peculiar. The animals turned down the high pastures they use every day of their lives, all of them, and headed for the trees. The seismometers were quiet. The gas monitors were quiet. In a control room in Catania, a great deal of very expensive equipment was reporting a perfectly ordinary Wednesday.
That evening Etna started throwing lava and ash into the sky.
Six hours.
The same signature has now turned up before eight major eruptions, and at the extreme the goats move fourteen hours ahead of the mountain. Ahead of the tremor. Ahead of the gas. Ahead of everything the volcanologists are paid to watch.
Nobody knows how they do it. The best guess is sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulphide venting beforehand at concentrations no human nose could ever find, which would mean the animals are smelling the future and declining to comment. Wikelski's own summary is that they know in advance, we have no idea how, but they do.
The institute says there is not yet enough data for a formal warning system. More eruptions, more animals, more species. Which is the correct scientific answer and a very funny one, since the shepherds reached sufficient confidence somewhere around the Bronze Age and have been acting on it every day since.
Rome had geese who saved the city by making a racket when the Gauls came over the wall, and honoured them for it every year afterwards.
Etna has their spiritual successors, doing the same job by refusing to walk uphill.
We have a word in English for a man who behaves like a goat. It means he eats anything, wrecks anything, and understands nothing.
The goat currently outperforms a seismograph.
If you bought $MU everyday at market close and sold at market open, your return would be 138,330,342%
If you bought $MU everyday at market open and sold at market close, your return would be -99.2%
Almost all of $MU gains have come from overnight moves
I am going to set up a trading agent that buys $1000 of $MU everyday right at market close and it will sell it at market open the next day
This will be a fun experiment
The amount of collective intelligence powering our Intraday Market Regime for top tickers and the leaderboard is incredible. This level of computing power, combined with real trading experience across technicals, options data, and market structure, has simply never been this accessible to retail traders.
Most platforms don’t attempt anything close to this because the computational requirements are enormous, and computing power alone isn’t enough. You also need the trader mentality and market expertise behind the models.
EZPZ is simply different. EZPZ is simply the BEST. 😍
Britain feeds around 12 million dogs a diet that is mostly cereal, and the first four ingredients on the bag are things a wolf would have to be starving to touch.
The animal in your kitchen is Canis lupus familiaris, close enough to a wolf to interbreed and produce fertile pups. We did not invent it. We met a predator at the edge of a carcass somewhere between fifteen and forty thousand years ago, worked out we were both after the same thing, and struck the oldest deal in human history.
That deal was meat from day one. The wolves got the scraps off large kills. We got a nose forty times better than ours, an early warning system, and something that would hold a boar at bay while a man closed in with a spear. Both parties hunting the same fat animals for the same reason, and every bit of it is still bolted to the dog asleep by your feet.
- Carnassial shears at the back for slicing flesh
- A jaw that opens and shuts vertically, no sideways grind
- No amylase in the saliva
- A short gut with fast transit, built for a dense meal
- Stomach acid down near pH 1 with food in it
Turn a bag of dry food over and read it in order. Maize. Wheat. Rice. Meat meal somewhere below the lot. Extruded at high temperature into little shapes and then sprayed on the way out with fat and flavouring, because otherwise the animal will not go near it.
The palatant is on the outside. The manufacturer knows precisely what a dog wants, and it is not the maize.
Every gundog man and every farm collie owner in the country already knows this. An entire raw feeding industry runs on it and nobody calls that extreme. It only became extreme when somebody made the same argument about people.
So feed the animal what the animal is. Meat and fat as the base, raw meaty bones for the teeth and jaw, a little organ, eggs, and the drippings off your own pan instead of down the sink. Then look at the coat and the smell in a month.
It is the same species that ran down a mammoth with you.
Stop feeding it corn.
@kay_noirx@grok The reason is the Mercator projectile method to build this map. It is almost like taking a group photo of your friends with a wide lens. The friends on both sides near to you deform and get bigger & larger.
