It's the exact opposite actually. Tom Cruise goes on and doesn't even react to the sauce, no matter how hot it gets. Only indication that it's having any effect is that his smile gets almost imperceptibly larger with each wing. He never breaks eye contact the whole time.
Disney wanted to prove it's thesis that 2D animation needed to be trashed so they intentionally gave this movie no marketing budget and released it a week and a half after Harry Potter the Chamber of Secrets came out.
When it inevitably failed Disney pulled all 2D animation projects and moved exclusively to 3D CGI slop.
