I love being a PhD student.
it feels like I’m expected to be miserable or overwhelmed.
but as a first-gen student, I’ve had to overcome a lot worse to get here.
to read and write and learn for a living feels like a gift that I hope I never take for granted, inshallah 🙏🏽
@byhusani@AmyJoSays @rewilde_ I guess we’ll keep chugging along as is and hope for change in the future 🤷♂️ nothing can be done I guess 🤷♂️ absolutely no possible changes could be made to how the event is run / advertised / sold 🤷♂️ good to know it’s slowly getting better
@byhusani@AmyJoSays @rewilde_ Nah but I’m saying right choice for who? For the people who always go to Glasto? Of course not! For the people they’re trying to bring in? Yes but not unless you change how the event is accessed
@ianfromretro@AmyJoSays @rewilde_ That’s how their demographics skew. Look back at the audiences for Kendrick, Stormzy, Dave… it’s a bunch of young white boys (no hate). Look at monthly streams: KDot (72.6M) Stormzy (15M) Dave (29M) SZA (70M) - it’s not that she hasn’t got the fans. Her fans don’t have access
@byhusani@AmyJoSays @rewilde_ I ain’t gonna pretend like I think SZA is the best choice BUT the reason Lamar was packed is largely cos the same white middle-class cohort who can afford Glasto go crazy for black male hip-hop (with a hint of gangster) Stormzy also did well - Female artists don’t get that “love”
@AmyJoSays @rewilde_ I think you’re also missing out something important about the actual cost of tickets to Glastonbury… most of these festivals are havens for white middle-class peeps who might have 1 or 2 SZA / Kendrick songs in their wrapped but largely listen to other artists
It was a privilege to be able to talk with @TomHock1 about this wonderful theatre project for tomorrow! Read about it below and buy tickets here: https://t.co/Hx6HTZB1os
Loved chatting to Grace Waga Glevey, @CJSimon123 & Noor Sobka about migration and climate change ahead of their @MigMatFest Rapid Response show tomorrow night.

It’s get-in @arcolatheatre for 2023 #PapatangoPrize winner SOME DEMON by Laura Waldren. As we open this world premiere by a debut writer, we thought it might be useful to be transparent about what this show takes. The £££, the timeline, the risks, all of it.
So, here goes...
Fifteen went to 1960s BRITAIN & got through it unscathed. Finetime is a fictional futuristic land but the racism of 1960s Britain was real. If anytime was right it could've been Devil's Chord. Distancing yourself from a panto villain is easy but addressing your history is hard

@JamrockHobo@TNegdel Adorno and Horkheimer are rather reductionist/vulgar materialist about how superstructure operates in my opinion - would recommend Stuart Hall ("Cultural Studies 1983"), Fredric Jameson ("Postmodernism"/"Archaeologies") in their place
To say we’re holding Isreal to a “high standard” is such a cowardly dog whistle to justify the belief that it is unreasonable to criticise the IDF and Netanyahu
Get your tickets here for the first scratch night I have ever produced - scary! So come and show ya faces and watch these gorgeous pieces of new writing https://t.co/ZgZ3u0KRms
