People are gonna be out in bars rooting for Cape Verde against Argentina like it's Mercer-Duke in the NCAA Tournament. That college hoops vibe of the World Cup is REAL.
BREAKING: LeBron James will not return to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell me and @Deadspin
Miami and Cleveland are emerging as strong contenders, with multiple teams expected to explore deals.
1- Found and started talking to a therapist. Every week. Never miss a session. Make it a priority. Talk to a professional. Somebody who doesn’t know you or have a predisposed opinion. Be brutally honest with them.
2- lived in the gym. Exercise burns stress, helps you look and feel better, and builds your confidence
3- started reading and studying Stoicism. Start with Marcus Aurelius and go from there. Reading a page out of The Daily Stoic also a great way. You’ll be surprised how much your view on life will change
4- learned a new skill. Cooking. An instrument. A new language. They say to “never stop learning” for a reason. A good reason
5- volunteer. Join an organization. For me it was mentoring through Big Brothers. Nothing in the world fulfills you or makes you feel better than helping others
6- connect or reconnect with friends and family. This is what they’re here for. Lean on the people who love you. They won’t feel burdened like you might think they will. Because they know you’d do the same for them.
7- get out of the house, and get out of your head. STAY BUSY. STAY PRODUCTIVE. Stay doing something.
8- do NOT look for relief in vices- drinking, drugs, casual sex, gambling. It might feel great in the moment but it’s temporary relief. And you’ll feel much worse the next day and have more regret. Break your other bad habits while you’re at it
9- find God. The creator. The center of the universe. Whoever or whatever it is for you, find it and learn to connect and speak to it.
10- practice gratitude. It is so incredibly easy to feel sorry for ourselves and lose sight of all the things we have to be thankful for. Making it a point to remind ourselves every day of the things we are grateful for will literally rewire and reprogram your brain. (Daily affirmation apps and journaling are great for this)
11- give yourself some grace. Remember that we are all human beings and that we fuck up. Making mistakes is part of the life experience. The important thing is learning from them and working to improve from them, with the aim to be the best possible version of ourself
Nothing makes a man more dangerous than realizing he can always restart, refocus and rebuild himself again. You cannot break a man who knows he can begin again from zero. You cannot intimidate someone who has already lost everything and rebuilt. Failure stops being terrifying when you understand it is just a reset button. That realization removes every limit. Because a man with nothing to lose and the skills to rebuild is the freest and most unstoppable version of a human being that exists.
This is a tipping point for the WNBA. It’s year 3 of constant cheap shots on the player who brought seismic attention to the league.
What other pro league doesn’t protect its superstar? Or, hell, just treat her like a human being. The adults need to enter the room.
