New excavations at Göbekli Tepe in southeastern Türkiye — the world's oldest known monumental structure at 11,600 years old — have uncovered evidence of large residential buildings, challenging the long-held theory that the site was an isolated ceremonial complex visited only for ritual gatherings. The latest dig focuses on an 80x70-meter plot near the famous temple-like pillared structures, where geomagnetic surveys and surface scans have revealed several large quadrangular buildings whose internal design suggests they served as dwellings during the site's second phase, around the early 9th millennium BCE. The discovery supports a growing challenge to the original theory put forward by Klaus Schmidt, who first excavated the site in the 1990s and argued Göbekli Tepe was built and used solely by hunter-gatherers for ceremonial purposes — and that the social organization required was one of the catalysts for the agricultural revolution. If people actually lived at the site, the narrative of how and why it was built becomes significantly more complex. Only a small portion of Göbekli Tepe has been excavated to date. Conservation work is also underway, including reinforcing monoliths with steel cables to
protect them from seismic activity.

Elon Musk used a word about paralysis that medicine has never had the standing to use.

For a severed spinal cord, the working vocabulary has always been manage and adapt. Ramps, lifts, powered chairs, hand controls, curb cuts on every corner of the developed world.

Extraordinary engineering, every piece of it aimed at the world around the wound.

That was the correct answer to something permanent. When a thing cannot be reversed, you rebuild the environment and leave the body alone.

We did it thoroughly. Building codes, transit systems, employment law, vehicle design, entire professions.

All of it rests on one assumption nobody ever had a reason to question.

The injury holds.

Millions of people are living inside that assumption right now. Each of them was told on a specific day, in a specific room, exactly what the rest of their life would look like.

The doctor was being accurate.

A man who publishes Mars timelines without hedging hedges this twice.

Flight sat at zero. Smallpox sat at zero. Catching an orbital booster in midair sat at zero right up until the arms closed around one.

The brain still sends the command. The body would still answer it.

The signal is intact at both ends and the wire is cut in the middle.

Every ceiling humanity has ever broken looked permanent to the people living underneath it.

What is left is a connection, and that number has moved off zero.
