Not even Spike Lee could make a movie that's more inspiring than OG Anunoby's life story πΏ
Born in the UK, Anunoby lost his mom to cancer a year after he was born.
His family moved to Missouri, USA when he was 4 since his father got a job at Lincoln University.
Growing up, Anunoby initially played football to follow in his brother's footsteps.
By the time he was 8, he shifted to basketball because of his height.
He wasn't heavily recruited coming out of high school.
His college coach at Indiana Tom Crean even admitted that he only found out about OG because they saw him at a tournament while scouting another player.
At Indiana, he came off the bench his freshman season.
He was finally named a starter as a sophomore, but after 16 games he tore his ACL.
Despite the injury, OG still declared for the 2017 NBA draft and was taken by the Raptors with the 23rd pick.
Just as OG finally got his big break, his father passed away a year later π’
When the Raptors won the title in 2019, he had to watch it all unfold from the sidelines as he had to miss the entire postseason due to an emergency appendectomy.
But just as he always has, OG never used his setbacks as an excuse π€
He was traded to the Knicks in 2023 and secured the bag with a five-year, $212.5 million contract in the offseason.
2 years later, he's an NBA champion and a New York hero.
For everything life threw at him, OG Anunoby could've easily folded.
But instead of breaking, he built himself into a champion ππ
Kelsey Plum on the @SportsonPrime postgame show:
"Jordin [Canada] is one of the best defensive guards in this league. I don't think she gets enough credit for what she does."
WNBA steals leaders this season:
1. Rhyne Howard - 38
2. Jordin Canada - 30
