If our Christianity causes us to say, “see how God used King David even when he did horrid things!” to justify politicians we like instead of “Where is the prophet Nathan of our time who is willing to call King David out for all his horrid actions?!” we need new theology.
The people in my autism parenting groups who are just figuring out what gutting the Department of Education is going to do to their kids, after they voted for Trump. Whew, chile. It’s a whole lotta, “They can’t do that, right?” Nah, bro. They can and they’re gonna.
Many don’t realize that the first people Hitler sent to his concentration camps weren’t everyday Jewish citizens, but his political opponents. So, when Trump rants about retribution, locking up his opponents, and giving them “very long sentences,” I can’t help but take him seriously… because history teaches us that is what fascist dictators do during their “Day One” period to consolidate their power. (After all, if you’re hellbent on staying in power but aren’t likely to win the next election, you can’t have your political opponents running around free.)
To keep fascism out of our lives, vote for democracy!
I have no difficulty understanding how someone can be both Asian and Black.
I can’t fathom how someone can be a professed Christian and a Trump supporter.
“How can a black woman also be Indian???”
“If a woman has high testosterone does that make her male???”
-The people trying to ban race and gender studies.
If you would’ve told me at 18 when I was fully immersed in Evangelicalism that one day I’d be labeled a liberal heretic because I couldn’t find the moral justification vote for a rapist who tried to overthrow our democracy, I would’ve told you that you’re crazy.
Yet here we are
Sobered by last night and trying to practice what people call radical acceptance, not of a presidential candidate because surprising things happen. Just plainly sobered by the thought that, with other individuals to choose from, masses of people still hail Trump. He’s what they actually want in a leader. A bully. A verbally abusive, artfully and purposely divisive bully who has all but left the Republican Party unrecognizable. I don’t know. I just can’t understand it. Maybe I’ve got a mental block. But, you who are staunch Republicans, why don’t you care about your own party more than that?
Forgive me. I don’t want to be a repeat performance of my 2016 self. I don’t. I didn’t like her anymore than you did. I intend to deal differently with this. I do not intend to get obsessed. I do not intend to lose more relationships. I don’t intend to talk about this regularly.
As the Scriptures say, I want to seek peace and pursue it. I want to be a person of kindness, love and compassion.
But I’ve got to move to a place of radical acceptance. It was one thing to cast a vote for a party’s only candidate, reasoning the choice as the lesser of two evils. This is quite another thing. This is wide-open-eyed, “we WANT Trump!”
Anyway, this is where we are. We can complain all we want about our leaders but, in this government by the people, at the end of the day and the beginning of November, our candidates are mirrors of ourselves.
It’s an unwed woman who carries God.
It’s pagans from the East who recognize God.
It’s the workers in the field who hear from God.
It’s the marginalized neighborhood who welcomes God.
It’s the Jewish baby, born in Palestine, who welcomes all.
Christmas is here
Let hope in
Parents, now is the time to be on guard. We are once again reminding you to be diligent about checking your child's candy throughout the Halloween season. Our biologists have just found THREE invasive bighead carp rolled up and shoved inside an almond joy. We are appalled.
Our culture watched Christians politicize covid, masks, vaccines, healthcare, public schools, immigration, climate change and more, rather than prioritize the needs of the poor and vulnerable.
We have no one to blame for our culture’s negative view of Christianity but ourselves.
Let me get this straight, “guns don’t kill people” but…
- Target merchandise makes you gay
- Bud Light makes you trans
- history books make you Marxist
Is that right?
The time for only thoughts and prayers is over. We are in a unique position to take action and save lives. And that’s exactly what we are going to do in the weeks ahead.
We're going to get this done for Arielle, Alexandria, and Brian. We’re going to get this done for Michigan.
14 months ago I had to evacuate from Oxford High Schol when a fifteen year old opened fire and killed four of my classmates and injured seven more.
Tonight, I am sitting under my desk at Michigan State Univeristy, once again texting everyone “I love you”
When will this end?
As we closely follow the active shooting at Michigan State University and wait for updates, we cannot stop but think: When will it be enough?
Students cannot live like this.
We cannot keep surviving like this.
