Today we offer some tips on crossing in front of a school bus safely:
๐ธโDo not start to cross the road until the stop arm is out and red flashing lights are activated
๐ธโMake eye contact and wait for the driver to signal it is safe to cross
๐ธโAlways cross in front of the bus
A reminder for all drivers: when a school bus is stopped with the red lights flashing and stop arm out, you must stop - whether approaching from the front or rear. Failure to stop can result in a hefty fine and demerit points on your license.
Play is important when it comes to child development. There are so many fun activities that everyone can participate in! Play like this contributes to a child's overall wellbeing, so don't be afraid to use your imagination and have fun with the youngest ones in your family.
When a school bus comes to a rail crossing, under the Highway Traffic Act, they are required to stop. The driver looks in both directions along the railway track; opens the door of the school bus and listens to determine if any train is approaching, and proceeds when it is safe.
The Student Transportation section of the CLASS website has lots of helpful information, including a page on school bus safety. We have school bus safety videos available that families are welcome to review with their children at any time - never hurts to have a refresher!
It is important to know what zone you reside in, what zone your school is in, and what zone your bus may travel through. You can find your applicable zone(s) on the parent portal.

Following up on Wednesday's #PinkShirtDay, it's a good time to remind everyone about the BULLY FREE ZONE. Just like in the classroom, the school bus is a ๐ซโBULLY FREE ZONE ๐ซโ
Keep the bus safe by maintaining and encouraging a Bully Free Zone during the ride.
Hope everyone has their #pinkshirt on to support the anti-bullying movement. By simply wearing #pink on the last Wednesday of February, you are showing your support in putting an end to bullying.

Please take care while at the bus stop during the winter months. Be respectful of neighbours' property, dress appropriately for the weather and do not play on any snowbanks nearby - as tempting as they may be!
We're headed into a long weekend! Have a relaxing and fun weekend as you celebrate Family Day on Monday. The CLASS office will be closed on Monday, February 16th.
Today we are talking about Community Safety Zones. These zones force drivers to slow down or face hefty fines if caught speeding. The enforcement of reduced speeds around schools keeps our communities safe, for all who ride the bus or walk to school. Take care in these zones.
February marks Black History Month. This month, we celebrate the continuing contributions Black Canadians make in our community and beyond. Our local area is filled with important moments in Black history, and this month is the perfect opportunity to learn more about it.
