🦷 It's Feel Good Friday, and here's something Americans can agree on!
A new national poll found that 9 in 10 voters support adding dental coverage to Medicare, with overwhelming support across political lines.
While traditional Medicare still generally excludes routine dental care, this common ground is a reason for optimism.
Because oral health IS health, and everyone deserves a reason to smile. 💙

🧠 Two Truths and a Lie Tuesday: Medicare Open Enrollment Edition!
Medicare Open Enrollment is underway, but did you know there are TWO different enrollment periods with very different rules?
Let's test your knowledge!
1️⃣ During fall Open Enrollment (Oct. 15–Dec. 7), beneficiaries with Original Medicare can switch to Medicare Advantage.
2️⃣ During Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment (Jan. 1–Mar. 31), beneficiaries with Original Medicare can switch to Medicare Advantage.
3️⃣ During fall Open Enrollment, beneficiaries with Medicare Advantage can switch back to Original Medicare.
🥁 Ready for the answer?
❌ #2 IS THE LIE!
The January–March period is for people ALREADY enrolled in Medicare Advantage. It allows them to switch Advantage plans or return to Original Medicare, but not the other way around under that enrollment period.
✅ #1 and #3 are both true!
📅 Fall Open Enrollment ends December 7. Changes take effect January 1, 2027.

⚠️ Leaving Medicare Advantage for Traditional Medicare? Don't assume you'll automatically qualify for Medigap.
New KFF research found that 74% of Medicare Advantage enrollees in 2023 had pre-existing conditions that could trigger Medigap denials where medical underwriting applies.
That's NOT the same as 74% actually being denied coverage.
With Open Enrollment underway, remember: Switching coverage and securing supplemental insurance are two different decisions. Federal and state protections vary.
The Center for Medicare Advocacy continues to advocate for stronger Medigap protections nationwide.

💙 There’s more than one way to support Medicare advocacy.
We’ve all been to the grocery store and the gas pump lately. Things are...not cheap. And sometimes we have causes we care deeply about without having a ton of cash immediately available to support them.
Good news for those who, like me (hi! I’m Kyle, the Marketing & Development Coordinator, aka the Social Media guy 👋), have a big heart but not a ton of liquidity:
Planned gifts, appreciated stock, QCDs, donor-advised funds, cryptocurrency, and other options can all help support CMA’s work beyond a traditional cash gift.
We’re also proud to partner with FreeWill, which offers free tools to help you create a will and explore estate planning and tax-smart giving options.
Whether you give today, plan for tomorrow, or simply help spread the word, we’re grateful to have you with us. 💙

It’s Two Truths and a Lie Tuesday: Nursing Home Edition!🏠👀
This one’s a little more serious than usual.
Which statement is the lie?
1️⃣ About 12% of nursing homes nationwide can qualify for CMS’s new abbreviated Risk-Based Survey.
2️⃣ Staffing, medication administration, and resident assessments are automatically reviewed during every Risk-Based Survey.
3️⃣ One analysis found that only 52% of nursing homes that initially appeared eligible still met the measurable eligibility criteria roughly a year later.
🥁 #2 is the lie.
Infection control is the only area automatically reviewed. Staffing, medication administration, resident assessments, care planning, and other important areas are reviewed only if something triggers a closer look.
And that 52% figure? Consumer Voice reached it by analyzing publicly available CMS data on homes that initially appeared eligible for the new process.
Why does it matter? Problems in nursing homes don’t always announce themselves, and a narrower inspection can mean fewer opportunities to uncover them.

A lifesaving medication shouldn’t be denied because of a technicality.
CMA has filed a federal lawsuit challenging HHS’s rigid “disease-matching” policy for Medicare Part D off-label drug coverage.
The case involves a beneficiary with a rare, potentially fatal condition whose medically necessary medication was covered in 2024, then denied despite evidence supporting its use.
For people with rare diseases, off-label medications may be the only effective treatment available.
We’re fighting to protect access.
