George Washington Williams was the first Black representative in the Ohio legislature, and he also wrote the first major book on the history of Black people in America! "History of the Negro Race from 1619 to 1880" is on internet archive, and libraries should have it too.
W.E.B. Du Bois's powerful advocacy of the Stockholm/World Peace Appeal, opposing the buildup of nuclear weapons during the Cold War, got the USA to arrest him and put him on a McCarthyist trial. Leaders who support peace and justice have always been a threat to its hegemony.

Mayors for Peace was started by the mayor of Hiroshima, and has hundreds of mayors around the world signed on, including from Cincinnati and Cleveland. But there can always be more, until we've all committed never to use or make nuclear weapons again. https://t.co/4n3LYotqXB
