Milestone in Chennai Metro Rail Project.

RVNL which is executing agency for part of the Chennai Metro Rail Project has been appreciated by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for achieving a significant construction milestone under the UG-03 (Underground Package-03) at Kilpauk Medical College under ground Metro Station.

The RVNL team successfully completed five slab pours at a single station during September 2026, reflecting efficient planning, focused execution, seamless coordination and sustained progress in this technically challenging underground metro project.

The Certificate of Appreciation to RVNL was presented by Mr. Archunan T, Director (Projects) CMRL, and received by Mr. Dhanapal, Chief Project Manager-II, RVNL Project Implementation Unit , Chennai, in the presence of Mr. Anthony J. Burchell, Team Leader, General Consultant.

The construction of the project is progressing well overcoming challenges.

The achievement reinforces RVNL’s commitment to delivering complex urban rail infrastructure with quality, efficiency and timely execution, contributing to the development of modern and sustainable public transport infrastructure in Chennai.

RVNL Secures ₹903 Crore Order for Rail Connectivity to 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, has received a Letter of Award (LoA) worth ₹903 Crore including GST from SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited, for the construction of a permanent railway siding along with Rail-over-Rail (ROR) connectivity from the plant boundary of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project to Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur in Buxar district, Bihar.

Part of Phase-III of the railway infrastructure for the Buxar Thermal Power Project, the project will be executed by RVNL within 36 months. The scope includes the permanent siding and associated railway infrastructure, including roadbed, minor bridges, Limited Height Subways (LHS), platforms, station buildings, Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) and other allied civil works.

The project will provide dedicated rail connectivity from the Buxar Thermal Power Project to the existing East Central Railway network through Chausa and Pawani Kamarpur, with onward connectivity through Buxar and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction (DDU) to the wider national railway network. The Rail-over-Rail (ROR) component will facilitate integration with existing railway infrastructure while enabling railway operations to continue safely and efficiently.

The connectivity will also facilitate the efficient movement of coal and other bulk materials to the power plant, strengthening the rail-based logistics chain between coal-producing regions and the power-generation facility in Bihar.

The Buxar Thermal Power Project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, has an installed capacity of 1,320 MW (2×660 MW) and is being implemented by STPL. The first 660 MW unit achieved commercial operation on November 14, 2025, while work on the second unit is progressing. SJVN states that the project will substantially enhance power availability in Bihar and the Eastern Region.

The ₹903-crore order further strengthens RVNL’s role in developing integrated railway and allied infrastructure for major power and industrial projects, contributing to stronger connectivity, efficient bulk-material logistics and infrastructure-led growth.

Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman & CEO, Railway Board, today inspected the Kazipet Rail Manufacturing Unit (RMU) in Telangana, being constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for Indian Railways in the Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway.

During the visit, he reviewed the progress of the project, inspected the Main Shed, Wheel Shop, Final Testing Shop and Paint Shop, and held discussions with State Government officials.

The Kazipet RMU is being developed as a versatile rolling stock manufacturing facility capable of producing Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMUs), coaches, trainsets and other modern rolling stock for Indian Railways. The unit will also undertake maintenance and overhaul of modern railway rolling stock.

Equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies, including robotic painting systems, modern material handling systems and state-of-the-art machinery, the facility is being operationalized to enhance quality, productivity and efficiency.

Once operational, the Kazipet RMU will strengthen India's railway manufacturing ecosystem and complement the country's existing rolling stock production facilities.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), through its Secunderabad Project Implementation Unit (PIU), has successfully completed the Sitafalmandi–Lallaguda Chord Line Project for Indian Railways, marking an important milestone in strengthening rail connectivity and operational efficiency in Hyderabad, Telangana. This project is inconnection with the upgradation of Multi Modal Transport
System( MMTS )phase - II in twin cities under Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway.

The 2.2 km chord line has been integrated with the existing railway network through Lallaguda Yard, Sitafalmandi A Cabin, and Sitafalmandi B Cabin. Executed within a busy operational corridor, the project involved complex engineering while ensuring minimal disruption to train services.

The project was inspected by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Central Circle Secunderabad, Ms. Madhavi, on 2nd July 2026, who gave clearance for Public Carriage of Passenger and Goods Traffic on this section. The inspection followed by a successful speed trial between Lallaguda and Sitafalmandi, confirming its readiness for train operations.

The new chord line removes a long standing operational bottleneck by providing a direct connection between the Kazipet, Nizamabad, and Bengaluru (via Kacheguda) routes. By eliminating the need for trains to pass through Malkajgiri, it will ease congestion at Secunderabad Junction, improve punctuality, increase line capacity, reduce travel time for passenger and freight services, and strengthen rail connectivity across Hyderabad, Telangana, and beyond.

This achievement reflects the dedication and technical expertise of RVNL’s Secunderabad PIU in delivering modern railway infrastructure that strengthens the Indian Railways network.
