On Thursday we announced the launch of a disaster relief partnership between the City, El Buen Samaritano, and the American Red Cross. EBS will now open its doors to people experiencing emergencies like fires, giving them relief from the elements and access to support to recover.
Energy at today’s Food Is Medicine Conference was electric! Big support for medically tailored meals & big opposition to GOP nutrition cuts. I’m all for making America healthy again—but you can’t be healthy if you’re hungry & we can’t defund & deregulate our way to better health!

A budget is a statement of values. If we value ending hunger, Congress must fully fund WIC, protect SNAP access during government shutdowns, and restore the Household Food Security Report.

Let's be clear: online ordering is a vital resource for many people, but it doesn't fill the role of the corner store or small local general store. This blog post explains the proposed rule and how it will affect communities with already limited access to food.
USDA says online grocery shopping can fill gaps if stores lose SNAP authorization. But online ordering can’t replace local food access, especially in rural communities.
The “Need for Access” provision could help keep stores open. https://t.co/HUdeHejII1
49,000 children in Massachusetts lost access to SNAP last month. At the same time, 97% of phone calls to the @DTA_Listens assistance lines did not reach a caseworker because there is not enough staff. The governor must prioritize funding for additional staff.
Nationally, unemployment remained steady, real wages declined year-over-year in April, food insecurity remained high & grocery costs are rising.
Yet 253,000 fewer kids are receiving SNAP in Texas.
205,000 kids in Arizona.
79,000 kids in Louisiana.
49,000 kids in Massachusetts.

No one—including kids, people with disabilities, veterans, and older adults—should be left wondering when they will be able to eat next. The Farm Bill must restore the devastating cuts to SNAP, so millions of families can afford to put food on the table. https://t.co/Do0WtwnvSs

Congress expanded SNAP time limits. Now more people are at risk of losing food assistance while food costs remain high. We want policymakers to hear directly from the people impacted by these harmful changes. Share your story: https://t.co/qJ06i9Ffgt

MEFAP funds vital food assistance programs that help school nutrition programs, food banks and meal programs, and programs providing care for children and older adults. Thank you to our Central Mass legislators who championed this important investment in our people!
News: The MA House passed the FY27 budget – and it includes a historic investment in MEFAP! GBFB commends House leadership and urges the MA Senate to match this investment to continue so we can tackle the rise in food insecurity across the Commonwealth.

Central MA folks, you have 2 more hours to sign on to our letter urging State legislators to fully fund @DTA_Listens staffing needs. https://t.co/lqyGh25gHc to add your name.
Thanks for highlighting the harmful effects of funding cuts on REAL PEOPLE, who are losing SNAP, LHEAP, preschool and childcare benefits & access to healthcare, @SenWarren. People can't afford these policies!
We're tracking this data for MA, where years of chronic underfunding has led to caseworkers having on avg more than 1300 cases each. DTA reported 938 fewer cases in Worcester alone btwn Feb & Mar - that's 1,740 people who have less food. These aren't numbers, they're people.
Congress must act before more struggling families lose the food assistance they need to afford groceries. They should start by delaying H.R. 1’s cost shift for all states, which is driving deeper cuts than anticipated as states scramble to reduce costs. https://t.co/lr8L5KKH1S
The farm bill scheduled for a House floor vote this week does nothing to address this unfolding crisis — and could make it worse by providing sweeping authority for states to outsource core SNAP eligibility functions to private companies with minimal oversight.
