I was honored to help present a proclamation to Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr. (Ret.), recognizing his recently announced Congressional Gold Medal, the joint-highest civilian award in the US.
Commander Alvarez is celebrated for his unbreakable spirit during his 8 years and 7 months of captivity as a Prisoner of War (POW) in North Vietnam, the second-longest held POW in American history.
