Although I no longer spend as much time around these parts, I do continue to waste time making unhinged holiday-themed graphics. This semester, it's for my organic photovoltaics literature seminar course...
I usually put a chemistry meme on the first slide as students come in to class. There weren't any Friday the 13th chemistry memes I could find... so I made my own. Was this a great thing to spend time on as I wrapped up my lecture prep? Probably not. But it was fun!
Quantum dots win the Nobel Prize just in time for my intro chem class to be talking about quantum chemistry & light-matter interactions! Happily adding a couple of slides to this morning's lecture on orbitals...
The @CMMauckLab@KenyonCollege reports on a thiophene diketopyrrolopyrrole ground state charge transfer complex with DDQ as an electron acceptor, with crystallography from @dhjchem

A question I've always wanted to answer: what else can IR spectroscopy tell us about intermolecular geometry in organic thin films?
We share our lab's attempt at understanding packing effects in IRRA spectra, just published in Vibrational Spectroscopy:

We also made (and will continue to make) recommendations to agencies that address their missteps:

Yesterday, colleagues & I had the opportunity to present to an auditorium filled with concerned faculty, staff, students, and citizens about the East Palestine train derailment. Just 120 miles from Knox County, this crisis in another rural area of Ohio hits close to home.
As a chemist I believe I have an ethical obligation to advocate for safety measures that protect not just chemical workers but first responders, rail crews, and residents who can be impacted when hazmat transport goes wrong.
