The FBI interviews they sat on for 18 years are out.

Just imagine how different the trajectory of politics in the U.S. would be if Obama would have been charged for his involvement in 2008.

Newly unsealed 302s cover what Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel told agents in December 2008 about Rod Blagojevich and the vacant Illinois Senate seat.

Here is what was never in dispute:
Obama publicly said he never talked to Blagojevich about the seat and that “no representatives of mine would have any part of any deals.”

Tom Balanoff testified Obama sent him as an emissary the night of the election to push Valerie Jarrett.

Emanuel had multiple calls with Blagojevich’s office about who should get the seat. Obama’s own internal review admitted as many as six.
Blagojevich’s lawyers asked for Obama’s 302 before trial. They didn’t get it. Judicial Watch sued for years. Courts kept it sealed.

Blagojevich went to prison. Obama, Emanuel, and Jarrett walked.
That’s why the scapegoat charge sticks.
Illinois politics is a marketplace. Governors have always horse-traded appointments. Blagojevich was on tape talking like a thug, “this seat is golden” so Fitzgerald made him the face of the whole machine.

The incoming president’s circle was discussing the same seat through cutouts at the same time. One guy got 14 years. The others became White House chief of staff and senior adviser.

Trump commuted Blagojevich in 2020. The files stayed buried through Obama and Biden. If the 302s show nothing, there was no reason to hide them from the jury that convicted him.

BREAKING: Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has arrested a Nigerian non-citizen in Lynn, MA and DOJ has charged her after they say she illegally voted in several US elections, including the 2024 Presidential election & 2022 midterms, and falsely attested to be a US citizen multiple times while registering to vote in MA.

DOJ has now charged 56-year-old Gladys Adaeze Okafor with unlawfully voting as an alien and she is expected to make her first appearance in federal court in Boston later today.

Per DOJ, Okafor is a Nigerian national who has a green card/lawful permanent resident status in the US, but hasn’t applied for US citizenship – and is legally not allowed to vote because she is a non-citizen.

Feds say when she registered to vote in Lynn, MA in July 2022, she falsely attested to be a US citizen. She then voted in the 2022 midterms.

DOJ says she then submitted a second voter registration form in 2023, once again falsely attesting to be a US citizen. She then allegedly voted in the 2024 Presidential election, which DOJ says she admitted to in a recorded interview with an HSI agent last week.

DOJ says the case is being prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Leah Foley as part of DOJ's joint effort with DHS to crack down on unlawful voting and election fraud.

You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.

I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.

But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.

Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.

Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.

So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.

If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.
