It was a privilege to witness an exciting evening of football at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, alongside Hon’ble Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, as Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured a 4–3 victory on penalties over NorthEast United FC following a hard-fought 0–0 draw in the 2026 Durand Cup semifinal.

The atmosphere in Shillong was truly electric, reflecting the growing passion for football in Meghalaya. It was wonderful to see our people come together and celebrate the beautiful game at such a prestigious tournament. Meghalaya continues to strengthen its position as a vibrant sporting destination.

Today, I led a joint meeting between the Governments of Meghalaya and Assam at Koinadhara State Guest House, alongside Assam Minister Shri Atul Bora, to review the developments following the unfortunate incident in Shillong on 19th August. We held detailed discussions on ensuring justice, restoring confidence and strengthening coordination between the two States.

Meghalaya has assured strong action against those responsible. Fifteen FIRs have been registered, five masked individuals have been identified, and a Special Investigation Team has been constituted. More than 3,770 Assam-registered vehicles have already been safely escorted to Assam.

We have also agreed on dedicated coordination mechanisms, permanent district-level committees and joint measures for safe transit and tourism. Meghalaya remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of every tourist and vehicle travelling through our State.

It was a pleasure to inaugurate the new building of St. Jerome Higher Secondary School, Nongmynsong marking an important step forward in strengthening the school’s infrastructure and creating a better learning environment for students. Good infrastructure is an essential foundation for quality education.

On the occasion, I provided financial assistance of ₹10 lakh towards the school’s development. Such support reflects our continued commitment to strengthening educational institutions and ensuring that students have access to facilities that support their learning, growth and aspirations.

July was marked by sustained efforts to advance Meghalaya's development agenda through active governance, strategic planning, and meaningful engagement with our people. As Cabinet Minister and MLA of Jowai Constituency, I remained focused on strengthening healthcare, sports, tourism, education, cultural preservation, and grassroots development.

Some of the month's key assignments included chairing high-level review meetings on Meghalaya's preparations for the 39th National Games 2027 and the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup, reviewing the State's health sector performance alongside Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma, inspecting healthcare facilities at CHC Riangdo, and monitoring major infrastructure projects, including the Hospitality Complex at Thadlaskein, sports infrastructure at Mukhla Shohshrieh and Panaliar, tourism projects at Pdein Chahtngit, and the beautification of the sacred Aitnar ahead of Behdieñkhlam.

The month was also dedicated to preserving our rich cultural heritage through active participation in the sacred Behdieñkhlam Festival, supporting local communities, and promoting Meghalaya's indigenous identity. I had the privilege of encouraging our students, athletes, artists, and skilled youth, while recognising their achievements at the state, national, and international levels.

Alongside these responsibilities, I continued engaging with the people across Meghalaya, reaffirming our collective commitment to inclusive development, responsive governance, and the vision of the MDA Government under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma.

CM Connect is a citizen-centric initiative of the Meghalaya Government that brings governance closer to people. Launched in February 2024, it provides citizens with channels, including 1971 helpline, WhatsApp and digital platforms, to raise grievances, seek information, submit service requests and share suggestions.

Through grassroots interactions and block-level public meetings, CM Connect allows people to highlight concerns relating to healthcare, education, roads, water, electricity and other services. The initiative strengthens responsive, transparent and accountable governance by ensuring people’s voices are heard and concerns receive follow-up.

It was a pleasure to join the Jaintia Photo & Videographers Association’s first anniversary celebration and the Jaintia Photo & Video Fest 2026 in Jowai. I congratulate JPVA on completing one year of bringing photographers and videographers together and creating a platform for young talents to showcase their creativity. I was also pleased to extend financial assistance of ₹3 lakh from the Sports Department to support the association’s continued activities.

Photography and videography are not only creative pursuits but also important avenues for skill development and livelihood. I encourage our youth to explore these fields, embrace new technologies and make use of opportunities through initiatives such as Skill Meghalaya, PRIME and Hello Meghalaya. I wish JPVA continued success in nurturing and empowering the creative talent of our region.

I had the opportunity to witness the thrilling 2026 Durand Cup semifinal between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and NorthEast United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar. After a hard fought goalless contest, Mohun Bagan Super Giant prevailed 4–3 on penalties.

It was a fantastic evening of football, with both teams displaying tremendous determination and fighting spirit. The atmosphere at the stadium, once again, reflected Meghalaya’s deep passion for the beautiful game. My congratulations to Mohun Bagan Super Giant and appreciation to both teams for an exciting contest.

I held a meeting with the management of NEIGRIHMS to discuss an important concern regarding the hesitation among some citizens of Meghalaya to seek treatment at the institution. As NEIGRIHMS is a premier healthcare institution offering specialised services across various medical disciplines, it is important that our people have trust and confidence in the facilities and services available here.

I have been receiving a number of concerns from patients, stakeholders and members of the public, particularly regarding communication barriers between patients and staff due to differences in language and dialects, as well as certain perceptions that medical practitioners and nurses are predominantly students. The purpose of the meeting was to understand these concerns, ascertain the facts, and explore strategies to address them and strengthen public confidence.

During the interaction, the management provided clarity on these concerns, and I was reassured that there is no such mismanagement as perceived by some sections of the public. I therefore appeal to the people of Meghalaya to come forward, seek treatment at NEIGRIHMS with confidence, and make the best use of the specialised healthcare services available to us within our state.

Approved amendments to the Maharashtra Institute of Technology Meghalaya Act, 2026.

2. Mahatma Gandhi University Amendment Bill, 2026
Approved amendments to align the University’s Visitor provision with UGC norms, making the Governor the Visitor. Government representation on the Board of Management will increase from one to two members, and on the Board of Governors from two to three.

3. Martin Luther Christian University Amendment Bill, 2026
Approved amendments to ensure compliance with UGC norms by restricting the University’s operations to Meghalaya, removing distance education provisions and ending its power to affiliate colleges.

4. Sister Nivedita University, Meghalaya Bill, 2026
Approved the Bill proposing a new university at Byrnihat.

5. Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian University, Meghalaya Bill, 2026
Approved the Bill proposing a new university at Sohiong, expanding higher education opportunities in the State.

6. International Open University Repeal Bill, 2026
Approved repeal of the 2011 Act as the proposed university remained non-functional and its name and framework were found inconsistent with UGC norms.

I had the opportunity to witness this thrilling Northeastern derby live at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where Shillong Lajong FC faced NorthEast United FC in the quarter-final of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup.

It was a match filled with passion, intensity and a fantastic atmosphere, with Lajong taking a 2-1 lead into half-time after a spirited first-half performance. NorthEast United, however, produced a remarkable comeback in the second half to secure a 5-2 victory. Despite the result, the fighting spirit shown by Shillong Lajong and the tremendous support from the home crowd truly reflected Meghalaya’s deep love for football.
