The Disheartening Humiliation of Prof. Aghaji
Every day in this country, we find ourselves in a bizarre situation that we find difficult to understand: where we are and how we got to this uncivilised behaviour and rascality. Worse still, when you try to bring these abnormalities to the attention of those concerned, they resort to abuse instead of appreciation.
Just this morning, my attention was drawn to the disrespectful and humiliating circumstances surrounding the apprehension of Professor Martin Aghaji, a distinguished 74-year-old medical expert. This man was not invited, nor was any direct contact made with him. Instead, they invaded his home at Independent Layout, Enugu, in the dead of the night, at 2 a.m., to arrest him in front of his visiting daughter.
As an internationally recognised cardiothoracic surgeon, esteemed academic, and elder statesman, Professor Aghaji warrants a considerable degree of respect, both because of his advanced age and his substantial contributions to our nation. More importantly, however, every Nigerian, irrespective of status or profession, deserves to be treated with dignity and in accordance with the rule of law. After the humiliation of breaking into his house and whisking him away from Enugu to Lagos for three days, all he got was, “Sorry, we made a mistake.”
The public outcry concerning the state’s handling of Professor Aghaji’s case highlights a wider conflict between the actions of state security agencies and the imperative to safeguard professional integrity and individual dignity. Such conduct directed at a 74-year-old might not only exacerbate the critical “brain drain” but also severely damage the country’s already precarious healthcare infrastructure.
This incident brings to mind the similar mistreatment of a medical practitioner in Akwa Ibom, which prompted the Nigeria Medical Association to consider a nationwide strike. Fortunately, due to prompt intervention, a formal public apology was issued to the affected doctor.
The practice of treating highly regarded, ethical professionals - and indeed any Nigerian - like common criminals sets a dangerous precedent that undermines the rule of law across all sectors. Therefore, we must conduct ourselves with civility in the discharge of our public duties. A superior and renewed Nigeria is indeed POssible. -PO
Interesting piece of document, but have a few observations
1. Let the party supremacy not result in imposition of candidates.
Give the tickets to aspirants that actually won the primaries.
2. Obidient and kwankwassiya movements are not political parties and their members are largely not interested in party politics.
it will serve your party's best interests not to meddle in their affairs.
Do your party politics and do not attempt to control them.
3. We will comment on the framework and guidelines when your committee releases them.
4. Reconciliation is important. Good idea.
5. Your actions will show Nigerians if you are not another APC,PDP etc starting with the results you will realease for the just concluded primaries.
I wish the party a great and resounding victory in 2027 elections.
The aspirant given a waiver as a former speaker himself would help provide this balance in line with the dynamics of Delta State politics ahead of the
general election.
We are pleading with the NDC to give us our rightful mandate.
The NDC should uphold the mandate given to Utomi Nwanne by the delegates on May 29, 2026 or better still provide a score line of the party results across the 9 local governments.

The majority who gave him their mandate are not fools. They believed in him and
The obident fold within the NDC won the governorship ticket, and it is only fair that the deputy governorship slot be extended to the APC fold. This strategic alignment would broaden the acceptance and popularity of the governorship candidate among APC members within the NDC

Thirty-two months after being incharge and instead of living by his powerful words, he now dumps National Grid that has been performing abysmally under his watch.
Those were the powerful words then that inspired hope among Nigerians who longed for light in their homes, stability for their businesses, and growth for their nation. Yet, while Nigerians are still grappling with that unfulfilled, categorical electoral promise - and without clear communication on the obstacles, if any, we read of provision in 2025 budget about the ₦10 billion for solar power at Aso Rock, and in 2026 budget another humongous amount for upgrade and maintenance and now we are being scarcitically told that Presidential Villa has planned to be disconnected from the national grid to rely entirely on solar.
It is a gross neglect and deeply worrisome when the seat of power abandons the national grid. One would expect government institutions to lead efforts to strengthen and expand the grid so that other establishments, and ultimately, citizens can benefit. If those in authority disconnect themselves from the system, who then will connect the ordinary Nigerian to reliable power?
Promoting renewable energy, as solar systems do, is commendable and necessary for the future. However, this situation reflects a deeper concern: governance lacking compassion and commitment to the governed. You cannot tell the people to fast while feasting yourself, securing yourself while Nigerians remain unsecured.
Nigerians do not expect 100% fulfilment of promises, but they do expect 100% effort, accompanied by measurable improvements and clear explanations when gaps exist. Leadership must serve the people, not isolate itself from their daily struggles. -PO
I decided before expressing an opinion, to give at least 6 weeks for the Nigerian and British Governments to publish the details of that £746 Million UK Export Finance Deal for Lagos Ports that was signed during the State Visit to the UK.
I’d be super grateful is anyone can signpost me to the disclosure documents of that Deal from either of the 2 governments.
