UK police are urging women in the tiny Oxfordshire village of Piddington to “take precautions” as the government pushes ahead with plans to house up to 1,256 single adult male asylum seekers next to their community.

Women in the village say they are taking self-defense classes, installing CCTV and changing their daily routines over fears for their safety. Around 133 female residents have written to all 266 women MPs warning that their “safety, security and freedoms will be under threat.”

The proposed asylum center would accommodate more than three times the entire population of Piddington, which has roughly 350 residents.
