House Judiciary Hearing on HB20-1079, the juvenile justice bill weβre following because of its changes to juvenile deregistration. You can listen here: https://t.co/uoSPPQsLi3
You may remember this kid, represented by our #SkaddenFellow @emmamcleanriggs. If HB20-1079 becomes law, this kiddo can come off the registry - and go to welding school!
So HB20-1079 would (in its current form) do the following things:
1. Allow judges to decide that a child convicted of a sex offense does not need to be registered at the time of sentencing, if child is eligible and registration is not recommended by SOMB evaluator.
Itβs happening!! The House Judiciary Committee is hearing HB20-1079, which contains important juvenile registration reforms, tomorrow at 1:30pm. Weβll be there, testifying in support, along with @ACLUofColorado. Stay turned for a primer on the bill and a link to live audio!
Whew! If you have questions about the changes SB-108 will introduce or about youth detention in Colorado you can dig into the bill itself here https://t.co/xsnNoNbHtf or get in touch with us. Exciting things happening in Colorado.
