The COMESA GPS derives its mandate from Article 3(d) of the COMESA Treaty. It is a formal structure for engagement on matters peace, security & good governance.
Delegates from over 120 countries and international organisations, including COMESA, were in Moscow, Russia (26 - 29 May 2026) for the International Security Forum to discuss the multifaceted yet common security threats and international cooperation.

Zambia 🇿🇲 NAPS-YPS💪🏾
COMESA_GPS participated in the strategic coordination meeting convened by the Govt of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ). The meeting was co-chaired by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts/National Youth Development Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the facilitation of Ms @hon_kangwa - AYAP for the Southern Africa region.
The meeting aimed to present and secure alignment on the GRZ concept note, proposed work plan, and indicative budget for Zambia’s YPS agenda and the development of the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security, in preparation for coordinated engagement and implementation with cooperating partners.
BBC Focus on Africa recently featured Amb Dr Mohamed Kadah - Ass SG Programmes of COMESA Who shared his views on the positive impact of the ongoing ceasefire both in the short and long term. The meeting essentially seeks to develop a comprehensive, prioritized, and costed implementation matrix to support Zambia in addressing outlined vulnerabilities in the CSVRA report and to implement mitigation strategies outlined in the CSVMS.
COMESA_GPS, the @AUC_PAPS and @APRMorg have convened a consultative meeting on the implementation of the mitigation strategy roadmap of the Zambia CSVRA process from 23 - 26 March 2026 in Livingstone, Zambia.
From storytelling to practical advice, the panel sessions encouraged young people to reflect on their career paths, learn from challenges, and draw inspiration from seasoned professionals. The conversation highlighted the importance of mentorship, resilience and purposeful leadership.

The Career Youth Talk for the Zambia Youth was officially opened by the H.E Etambuyu Gundersen, PS of the Zambia Ministry of Foreign Affairs @ZambiaMFAIC as she encouraged the Zambia Youth to be intentional in their engagement, ask the right questions and create relevant networks for their career growth.
The COMESA Career Youth Talk in commemoration of Zambia Youth Day held on 20 March 2026, brought together over 115 young people, experts and COMESA Directors for an inspiring exchange on career journeys, leadership lessons and opportunities for growth. The room was alive with ideas, questions and connections that will carry forward beyond the event.
The cohort of students drawn from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Kenya, Malawi Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe were taken through the COMESA Governance, Peace and Security programmes and provided insights on how these programmes feed into their mandate.

As part of efforts to publicise and keep key stakeholders updated on the various regional integration programmes being implemented by COMESA, the Secretariat through @COMESA_GPS undertook an outreach program on 18 March 2026 to train the current cohort of students at the Zambia Defence Command and Staff College.
