having one of your items tagged on the weekly “staff picks” back then used to mean something, a bragging right… you’d almost instantly sell your listing by the end of the week.
they created an outlet for people who liked fashion, real collectors not just the creatives.
@Bingobongo35941@cobraccia i’m not saying grailed is no longer viable. it’s just not as much variety you’d see nowadays. you’ll still pieces you want on the site as a buyer. getting the sellers to sell on their platform is another thing.
@cobraccia@Bingobongo35941 i agree algorithm is a big part of gaining followers, it’s definitely not easy to stand out from other established stores that came before you. it’s a grind but that’s why your heart’s gotta be in it. me personally not anymore.
@Bingobongo35941 if you’re a trustworthy seller with many transactions, you will most likely have created a following on social media, most importantly ig. there are many ways to sell. creating your own site is very accessible nowadays. collab pop up shops with other sellers are a thing also.
@cobraccia@Bingobongo35941 you know how many ig archive sellers there are? especially by the end of covid? those lot have their own stores now. why sell through a site when they can create their own lookbooks / photoshoots and sell directly through their ig followers.
@babychelf i got a prada banana flame shirt on depop for €200 MASSIVE STEAL, used it for a photoshoot then sold it on grailed for $630 usd (530~ euro before fees) 😭 everyone who sniped yahoo auctions japan back then have their own store now 🥀💔
@Bingobongo35941 the site reducing fees for lower priced items to attract more sellers. more sellers = more commission, but that’s no longer the appeal since you can just cut off the middleman (grailed, depop, etc.) and sell for your asking price without getting fucked by fees
@SkiFRFX fairs, buying local is more ideal now, less wait, you get to try it in person. at least for me since i live in toronto, many variety of archive shops to choose from.
@greatness117677 2021 when grailed and paypal was in partnership still. idk when they stopped their partnership as i haven’t bothered opening this cursed app since paypal decided to freeze my account cause they thought my transactions were suspicious
i sold one of my junya watanabe poems pants on grailed, paypal decides that my account is suspicious even when i’ve had countless of transactions on the account and permanently froze it. wasn’t able to get my payout on the pants.
fuck grailed and paypal.
@malcsito couldn’t agree more… losing out on $100+ off of fees alone is insane when you can deal off site (tho higher risk of getting scammed), it’s not worth selling. the amount you lose out on fees adds up overtime, especially to those who have thousands of transaction on the site
@LurkerLouis they had to cut off their paypal partnership years back just to cut down seller’s fees, still not enough when everyone has a side business or know someone to help co-sign for cheaper in store. they’re cooked.
