#sapsGP The District Commissioner of Johannesburg Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, led a multi-disciplinary operation in collaboration with stakeholders to raid hijacked and dilapidated buildings in Johannesburg CBD.
The operation was conducted on 05 July 2025 and commenced with a parade of force multipliers including various SAPS units, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Social Development, Johannesburg Metro Police, Gauteng Traffic and Traffic Wardens, City Power, Community Police Forum and patrollers.
The forces then made their way into the Central Business District as well at to Moffatview and raided nine hijacked houses. These houses are dilapidated and have been declared unsafe for human habitation. A total of 181 suspects including 150 illegal immigrants were arrested for offences such as possession of drugs, assault GBH, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition among others.
Eleven liquor outlets were visited and five were closed for non-compliance with the liquor act. During the arrests, the police also seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, liquor, drugs (crystal meth and nyaope) as well as cash.
The arrested suspects will appear before court on Monday, 7 July 2025. NP
