My Grandad spent the last night of the War in Europe with his battery at Lintig, Lower Saxony. This picture was from that night. You can see the village windmill on the horizon. Thinking of him and grandma today. #VEDay75
One of the problems the BBC faces is all the interesting podcasts that have boomed in recent years. Many could have been, or stayed, in-house. Scrapping more shows like this just dilutes and weakens even further what it offers to listeners.
There is no way that Thinking Allowed can be replaced by "trusted journalism, distinctive storytelling and programmes that bring people together" It talks directly with academics and is both brilliant and chip as chips. Not the AI slop summary you seem to be planning #bbcradio4
So.... £2,485 on glasses for a PM was "sleaze rotting our politics to the core" but £72,000,000 in a single day for Nigel Farage is celebrated as hitting "the jackpot" and a "war chest..."
Whatever is happening here is happening in plain sight. You decide!
It's crazy too that in the 2000s partys competed with one another to claim that they had the better plan to reduce child poverty- that quickly went out the window after the country embraced austerity.
Ending rough sleeping will be a great first step - I've bored friends and family about how disappointing it has been seeing it not addressed by Starmer when it was a priority of New Labour
@Peston The Times is very happy with her rumoured appointment, it is even painting a 0.1 uptick in GDP in very favourable light - they wouldn't have done for Reeves. A lawyer is not suitable for this position and particularly not now. It's astonishing that he would trust this role to her
There have been a lot of jolly news pieces about the new #piccadillyline trains in recent weeks which is lovely except they are delayed well over a year and we bloody well need them now! That line is hell in this heatwave. I think the media has been far too forgiving of #TFL
@museband@Ticketmaster@axs Obviously £145 is too high to stand at a show but it's cheaper than their last UK gig so I felt there was no choice. @museband talk the talk but they are just a band - expensive and happy to play in questionable places despite their lyrics. Great band to see live though.
@museband standing tickets at the O2 rose to £416.95 this morning! Obviously that was a no and the choice was taken away by them selling out. Then I thought to try 'buy from the venue' where they were available and cost £145.55. Conclusion - @Ticketmaster are crooked but @axs is ok
I feel we'e missing truly representative 90s music in the #WinterOlympics Ice dancing. For a Brit is really has to be the Life of Reilly by the @Lightning_Seeds as there was no escape from that song for years (although the video for Sugar Coated Iceberg featured ice skating).
Looking at my now #LiquidGlass iPhone, I'm reminded of all the many many rubbish skins I downloaded for Winamp back in the day. It looks really amateurish, not up to their usual high standard. #iOS26
Just seen on the news that the @natlibscot is celebrating its Centenary. I would thoroughly recommend its website to everyone - it has an lot of amazing resources not least its UK OS map collection - it's great for family history research. Happy 100th and thank you
#WHSmith is a classic name. I understand why they couldnt keep it for the high street, but why #TGJones ?- it loses out to #TKMaxx in originality and ease of saying, Just a really odd choice.
How sad that #WHSmiths is lost from the high street, I spent so much lunch and pocket money on magazines in the Lancaster branch after school. The last time I visited that store it was run down and badly managing its postal franchise (after the loss of a the post office).
I love how we are supposed to find a 4.6% hike in railfares acceptable because it is just inflation. If ticket prices had risen with inflation from when I was at Uni I would be paying £74 rather than £132.70 for an open return to London. That car parked outside is very tempting.
