JMU's defense is one of the most productive in the country.
And at the heart of it is linebacker Trent Hendrick.
Here's my story about him for @HEROSportsNews leading up to @JMUFootball's CFP game against Oregon.

MAC commish Jon Steinbrecher unloads on Power 4.
"If you look up the term ungovernable, I am convinced a handful of conference logos pop up & they're all autonomy logos. ... I am tired of listening to the complaints of the autonomy conferences who believe they know the best way to run the organization."

We're still a couple months from the season, but I decided to try and do an early G6 top 25 @HEROSportsNews.
I don't think any of these are exactly hot takes. I'm sure others would strongly disagree.

Aside from the Craig Bohl and Tim Polasek storylines, Wyoming and North Dakota State share pretty similar DNA as programs (as this article outlines).
It's also one of NDSU's closest Mountain West opponents in terms of geography.
I sure hope it becomes a real rivalry.
Wyoming is looking for a new conference rival in the new-look Mountain West. Does North Dakota State fit the bill?
The Cowboys and Bison play as conference foes for the first time Oct. 3.
โPeople need to realize that theyโre not just joining this conference as a landing spot. Theyโre going to join this conference to try to win it."

I think a lot of people's eyes glaze over when it comes to this legislation stuff on college sports, partially due to multiple failed attempts to get something passed and also partially due to a "just let me know when something actually happens" mindset, understandably. Who knows if this bill is the one, although it is said to be bipartisan. I will say, though, that a lot of fans' biggest ask is for there to be at least some control over the transfer portal. One transfer is fine, but a player going to 3-4 different schools in 5 years is a bit excessive. If this bill does pass, it would allow the NCAA to enforce the one-time transfer rule once again - "enables administrators to enforce policies related to movement by permitting only one transfer before a player must miss a season of eligibility. A second or more transfers are permitted under certain conditions, such as a head coach leaving or the elimination of an athleteโs sport."
What a difference a year can make.
After a strong 2025 season, New Mexico is the favorite to win the Mountain West in 2026 @BetMGM. But I think another team will get it done

Now in the new era of the Pac-12, Boise State is the favorite to win the league @BetMGM. And for me, it's tough to pick another team to win it in 2026.

Western Michigan is the favorite to win the MAC @BetMGM.
A team hasn't repeated as the conference champ since 2011-12. Here's why that could change in 2026:
