🇻🇳On this day in 1890, communist revolutionary Ho Chi Minh was born. During his lifetime, he built a revolutionary movement across 4 decades, surviving prison, exile, and French death sentences.

The movement he built and the masses he mobilised defeated French, Japanese, and American imperialism.

His revolutionary movement defeated the US’ imperial war on Vietnam, which is estimated to have killed more than 3 million people, with half of the deaths being Vietnamese civilians.

Ho Chi Minh never got to see a united Vietnam, but nevertheless the Vietnam he fought for stands reunified, sovereign, and a power in East Asia.

In 1993 80% of Vietnamese lived in poverty. Today, the multidimensional poverty rate stands at 1.3%. Vietnam is credited with being one of the fastest poverty-reducing countries on Earth. Per-capita incomes rose 5.7x between 1990 and 2023.

Vietnam now looks ahead with the goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045. Vietnam’s success today would not have been possible without one of the greatest revolutionaries of the 20th Century, and one of the most effective anti-imperialist leaders of all time; President Ho Chi Minh.
