Just saw Inside Out 2 and I'm sorry what do you mean Parent Island is tiny and decrepit young lady when you got hot food, running water, free cell phone, no polio cuz of my health care, Santa Claus, tolerance of your gross fluids and odors, girl I brought you in this world I'll--
Wife (in admirable baritone to our 3yo): Ho Ho Ho! What would you like for Christmas?
3yo: A teddy bear! But Santa, what would YOU like for Christmas?
Wife: <stunned heart-filling silence of a holiday deity who's only ever been squeezed dry for their generosity>
@DrJenChen4kids My goodness. Trying to strike that balance between modeling healthy confrontation for my child and adequately dressing them down? So so hard.
I'm not violent or vindictive. But at the airport a random toddler walked up to my toddler and, unprovoked, slapped her in the face.
It took every ounce of me not to throw that baby in the overhead compartment unrestrained to rattle around during takeoff.
And his PARENTS. Were not AT ALL outraged or apologetic enough. Like this was just a thing that happens.
Sir. Ma'am. This is not kids being kids. And there's room in that overhead compartment for you and your 'gentle parenting' too.
Landed in the USA for the first time in 2 years. Didn’t realize the weight of fearing for my Black life daily until I went expat.
I walked past smiling neighbors with Trump lawn signs in Wisconsin this week, fight or flight came out of hibernation and it felt…American.
Cool.

Once again:
Actual white allyship requires risk.
Risk of losing face, risk of losing power.
And most of all, risk of doing/saying the right thing even if it's uncomfortable.
Watching them squirm has lost its charm.
It's the silence for me. Deafening.
@gradydoctor Man, I can't tell you how much this is a blueprint both how I want to parent and how I hope my parent learns to grand. Love these snippets you kept of your dad. The evidence of these moments matters too!
@TeamCaptainJohn@DGlaucomflecken Oh man that's so wild! I'm so glad I was able to show you some kindness during those dark residency days. Hope all is well with you!!
