This #InternationalYouthDay, we celebrate young women entrepreneurs, survivors, young women with disabilities & refugees building livelihoods, breaking barriers & shaping communities. Different journeys, shared aspirations: to thrive, be independent, have a voice & create change.
In partnership with @crawntrustkenya and @unwomenkenya , CREAW joined Women's Rights Organizations at the WROs Convening on Early Preparedness and Coordination for the 2027 General Elections to strengthen collaboration, align priorities and develop a shared roadmap for advancing women's meaningful participation and leadership in the electoral process.
The discussions emphasized the importance of preparing early, responding to emerging political realities and working collectively to ensure women are not left behind as Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Elections. By investing in coordinated action today, Women's Rights Organizations are laying the groundwork for a more inclusive, peaceful, and gender-responsive electoral environment.

The National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) has formally adopted and approved the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening Kenya's legal framework for preventing and responding to sexual violence.
The Bill introduces critical reforms to address emerging forms of abuse, including voyeurism, sextortion, stalking, grooming, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. It also places greater accountability on telecommunication platforms to facilitate the swift removal of non-consensual intimate content while strengthening survivor protection through measures such as mandatory gender desks at police stations and safeguards against secondary victimization.
The Commission commends the leadership of the @NCAJ_KE Committee on the Review of Sexual Offences Laws and Policies, led by Vice Chairperson Desire Njamwea from the Commission, and appreciates the invaluable technical support of @CREAWKenya,@fidakenya , @equalitynow , The CRADLE , The Center for Reproductive Rights, and the @WanguKanjaF throughout the drafting process.
The Council has directed that the Bill be forwarded to the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) of the National Assembly for legislative consideration. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to strengthen justice and protect survivors.

Women and girls with disabilities face a disproportionate risk of gender-based violence, yet they continue to face significant barriers to accessing justice, psychosocial support, financial services, and economic empowerment opportunities.
To strengthen disability-inclusive programming, the Jasiri Program convened a two-day disability inclusion training in Mombasa County, bringing together CREAW staff, counsellors, community champions, and Women Rights Organisations (WROs).
Participants deepened their understanding of disability, explored the barriers faced by persons with disabilities, reflected on the legal framework protecting their rights, and developed practical action plans to ensure disability inclusion is embedded across GBV prevention and response efforts.
Building an inclusive society means ensuring that women and girls with disabilities are not only protected from violence but are also able to access justice, quality support services, skills development, and economic opportunities without barriers.

The future of gender equality is built through collaboration, learning, and collective action.
This week, partners of the Renewed Women Voices and Leadership (RWVL) Programme are gathering for the Annual Partners Review Meeting (APRM)—a flagship convening that brings together implementing partners to reflect on progress, share lessons, strengthen collaboration, and chart the way forward.
Implemented across all 47 counties, the RWVL Programme is strengthening women-led and women's rights organisations through flexible funding, institutional capacity strengthening, movement building, and responsive support that enables organisations to thrive and respond to emerging realities.
Partners will engage in critical conversations on program governance, organisational capacity strengthening, learning and evidence, MEAL, communications and strategies that will deepen our collective impact in advancing the rights of women and girls in all their diversity.
Together, we are strengthening feminist movements, amplifying women's voices, and building more inclusive, just, and equitable communities.

The @NCAJ_KE has adopted and approved the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing stronger protections against emerging forms of sexual violence.
Wangu Kanja Foundation is proud to have contributed to this milestone through our Executive Director, Lady. Dr. Wangu Kanja - OGW, a member of the NCAJ SGBV Committee on the Review of Laws and Policies on Sexual Offences and GBV. Her contribution helped ensure that survivor voices and lived experiences informed the proposed reforms.
The Bill now advances to the National Assembly's Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), bringing Kenya one step closer to stronger survivor-centred laws and greater accountability.
