Under the Surface” – a series of workshop series aimed at exploring race and identity among young people in Dudley!

In today’s diverse society, understanding our unique backgrounds and experiences is crucial. This series offers a safe space for open discussions, creative expression, and self-discovery, allowing participants to delve into their own identities and understand the perspectives of others.

Through engaging activities and expert facilitation, we aim to foster empathy, promote inclusivity, and equip young people with the tools to navigate complex conversations about race. Participants will share their stories, learn from one another, and build a supportive community.

I am currently visiting my parents in Cape Verde, and unfortunately, 3 days ago my island was hit by a tropical cyclone that caused widespread devastation. There is a significant amount of destruction, and many families have been displaced.

As we wrapped up the festival, we were rem inded of the importance of coming together as one community. In the words of Maya Angelou, "In diversity, there is beauty and there is strength." Let us continue to uplift one another and remember that we all have a place in this world.

Last Saturday, we proudly held our Diversity Festival under the theme "Cake Not Hate,. The event was a demonstration of unity and resilience, as communities from different backgrounds joined together to march in solidarity against racism and discrimination.
