Hey dev friends in Nigeria & Africa, I’m going to sponsor 2 interns from an African university to come work with me at Shopify. I’ll pay for room and board.

On application mention that you’d like to join the JML sponsorship track.

Help share this invitation more broadly.❤️

@userfocus You'd think he'd make things a little more adorable then 😝

@BrandonMChu Ha yes, I lost that idealistic approach to design approximately 5 years ago. It's like a jaded rite of passage. I'd also like to add that not having the perfect solution isn't reason to abandon a project. Small incremental changes can still have a big impact.

Proud to work for a company with such strong values.

My team has more active and almost starting #paternityleaves then #maternityleaves at the moment and I think that is amazing! @Shopify is super supportive and has created a culture where #parentalleave is important. I hope in the future we see this at more companies <3

@BrandonMChu PM and UXR makes for a strong collaboration and pairing sessions. Less lonely too.

@mcfazeli @ProductFaculty Nice to hear your voice again! Great advice. These are also great skills for UX research. Maybe there's a reason why we both started off at the Rotman 😉.

Hot tip 🔥

If your user need starts with
"I need to understand..."
"I need to be aware..."
"I need to know..."
It's not a real user need.

Ask why a few more times to find the real one.

[Tina Richardson @CRichUX]

Always give credit where credit is due. This does not make you appear weaker, in fact it does the opposite.

[Tina Richardson @CRichUX]

The stronger the collaboration, the stronger the design. Distance yourself from proposed solutions, not people.

[Tina Richardson @CRichUX]

Really knowing your coworkers builds trust and this makes it easier to be honest. You should be comfortable enough to openly disagree and have constructive dialog. When conflicting research findings come from a trusted source they are less likely to be taken badly.

[Tina Richardson @CRichUX]

Some people believe that to succeed in research you should distance yourself from the rest of the team. This will make it easier to deliver hard truths and remain unbiased. I disagree and instead strive for close relationships across disciplines.
