Hi, once the seller sends the trade offer via steam and then marks the trade as 'sent', the timer resets so you have an additional 12 hours to take action.
With this in mind, if the seller didn't mark the trade as 'sent' until 8 hours had passed, you still had an extra 12 hours from that point to accept the trade offer on Steam or to open a dispute for the trade if there were any issues.
Since no action was taken at all, the funds were automatically released to the seller. This is outlined quite clearly on the site, with several notices explaining the process.
