Last but not least: Joseph Murray @drjosephjmurray will talk about the emergence of ASL in the newly renovated Gallaudet University in his presentation on "Butterflies in the City: Deaf People, Sign Languages, and Access in Public Spaces". #LLDC_Bern
Next is the presentation by Hilde Haualand @hildemh about "The ANT Perspective: Understanding Access with Actor-Network-Theory". It will be discussed what "accessibility" consists of and how disabled people have been victims of inaccessible social & material structures.#LLDC_Bern
After the discussion and break we continue with "Access: a Bird's-Eye View", a presentation by Maartje De Meulder @mdemeulder. We'll be asked the question, what "access" on an institutional, societal and individual level means, in what context and to which person. #LLDC_Bern
With the presentation "Calibration" by Annelies Kusters @AnneliesKusters we continue with insights on how signers can adapt to non-(fluent-)signers or people using different regional variants or sign languages - using tools like mouthing but also phone apps. #LLDC_Bern
Nick Palfreyman @NickPalfreyman will give his presentation about "The Social Meaning of Sign Language Mouthing in Multilingual Settings". Mouthing as an example of translanguaging has linguistic but also social functions, which have not been explored that much yet! #LLDC_Bern
On day 2 we continue with a presentation by Joseph Hill @jaceyhill about "Black ASL: Racism and Audism as the Origins of Variation". He will discuss the intersection of racism & audism and the influences on the formation & maintenance of Black ASL as a language variety.#LLDC_Bern
The last presentation for today, given by Robert Adam @rejadam, will cover "Minority Sign Language Contact". He will discuss some outcomes of language planning & language shift in deaf communities, as a result of sign language colonialism and sign language unification. #LLDC_Bern
Kristin Snoddon @KristinSnoddon will present us "Deaf Interpreters and Sign Language Vitality". It includes interesting data from a study of language ideologies related to deaf interpreters, as little is known about deaf interpreter demographics! #LLDC_Bern
After the discussion & break we'll continue with John Conama's @jconama_bosco66 presentation about "Sense of Community - the Irish Deaf Community". He will present us the results of a study from 2020 about the notion and strength of the irish deaf community belonging. #LLDC_Bern
"The Global Deaf Circuit: An Entaglement of Deaf Spaces, Networks, and (un)Belonging" by Erin Moriarty @ErinMoriartyH will give us insight in deaf tourism, the search for deaf spaces and creation of a robust signing ecology without barriers. #LLDC_Bern
