Retailers, in particular, are being hit hard. Did you know that asking a customer at an off-licence for ID can be framed as a defamatory statement? Or quietly refusing to accept a €50 that failed a counterfeit check? All have resulted in legal actions.
CSNA are calling for New York-style night courts and fast-track justice, as well as more rehabilitation for thieves with addictions, after warning they are facing a “pandemic of crime”.

🛒According to the Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association, the cost of living crisis is not to blame for the increase in people shoplifting.
📈Figures released by the CSO last month found theft crime is at its highest level in five years.
