A winter storm is forecasted to hit the Denver Metro area around rush hour traffic tonight. Roads may become slick and hazardous, so reduce your speeds and leave extra space. The storm is expected to continue through the night into tomorrow morning's commute. If you can't stay home, plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Do you know what to do in a crash? Yellow means to prepare to stop, not speed up. Last year, troopers investigated almost 70 deadly crashes caused by drivers who ignored traffic lights and stop signs. Always stop on red - it's the law and saves lives. A few seconds isn't worth the risk of a devastating crash.
Even though the temperature is below freezing, our Troopers are still out making sure the roads are safe. Trooper Sutton located and arrested an impaired driver near Cimarron Hills early in his shift. Don't drink and drive. Call a sober ride. 2B7 #dui#drivesober

Michael H. James
December 18, 1975
Patrolman James stopped a pickup driving westbound on Colorado 24 near Limon. While James was running a driver’s license check, the driver assaulted him and took his service revolver. James tried to regain control of the situation but he was shot several times. The suspect left James beside the road and disabled the patrol car radio. A short time later, a truck driver with a CB radio called the Limon dispatch office and reported a wounded officer. James was dead by the time the doctor arrived. The suspect surrendered after three hours and was later convicted of robbery, murder, and being a habitual criminal. He was sentenced to three life terms.
James entered the Patrol May 9, 1971.

On December 7, 1941, the word was forever changed when the attack on Pearl Harbor claimed over 2,400 lives and thrust the United States into World War II. This day marks a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by service members and civilians alike, as well as the resilience and unity that followed in its wake. Let us honor the memory of those who perished and pay tribute to the courage of those who rose to the challenge in defense of freedom. We will never forget.
