Only licensed firearms owners can take part in the federal “assault-style firearms” confiscation scheme—yet the government says it can’t (or won’t) provide basic details about who’s participating. Public Safety Canada and the RCMP claim the info—like whether participants have criminal records, are military or RCMP members, public servants, or Indigenous—isn’t all tracked in one place. But let’s be honest: if they did answer, it would raise a lot of uncomfortable questions. Taxpayers are paying billions for a program the government can’t—or won’t—properly account for.
Congratulations to Our New President, Mike Duynhoven!
We are thrilled to announce that Mike Duynhoven has stepped up as the new President of the CSSA!
As our long-standing Vice-President, Mike is the mastermind who bridged the gap between grassroots gun owners and the Canadian firearms industry, creating networks that fund our legal battles and public relations campaigns.
Mike’s understanding of the bureaucratic traps faced by PAL/RPAL holders and his hands-on dedication makes him the perfect choice to guide CSSA forward.
We have the facts. We have the willpower. And under President Mike Duynhoven, the CSSA will continue to fiercely defend our outdoor heritage, culture of safety and personal responsibility, and Canada's sport shooting traditions.
Thank You, Diane Town!
After 10 years, Diane Town has stepped down as President. Diane’s tenure was a masterclass in situational leadership during the most turbulent era Canadian sport shooters have ever faced.
From fighting the regulatory overreach of Ottawa's gun bans to demanding political accountability from all parties, Diane refused to let our community be ignored.
She championed grassroots activism, expanded women's shooting programs, and reminded us all to "keep the faith."
Diane, thank you for your years of tireless service, your grit, and for leaving our association stronger, more diverse, and more united!
The Canadian Shooting Sports Association proudly congratulates Kerry Lynne Findlay on being named Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia.
Kerry Lynne has been a tireless champion for the rights of responsible firearms owners across Canada. Her leadership, conviction, and unwavering dedication to the lawful use and ownership of firearms make this a moment worth celebrating for every shooting sports enthusiast from coast to coast.

Ontarians Overwhelmingly Support Blocking Federal Gun Confiscation
According to a Leger poll commissioned by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, 56% of Ontarians support legislation to block Ottawa's controversial gun confiscation program — and outside the GTA, support jumps to 62%.
Alberta and Saskatchewan have already acted. It's time Ontario does the same.
The people have spoken. Will Queen's Park listen?

In December 2024, while the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was actively shooting up businesses and extorting South Asian families from coast to coast, the federal government took action — by Order in Council, bypassing Parliament entirely, no debate, no vote — and banned 324 more makes and models of legally owned firearms. Then in March 2025, with the gang still operating freely, they did it again.
Meanwhile, the Bishnoi gang was bold enough to mail a letter to an Abbotsford police station in August 2025 bragging about 1,000 armed foot soldiers ready to carry out shootings. The government didn't even designate them a terrorist organization until September 2025.
You did everything right. You got your PAL. You took the courses. You stored your firearms legally. You followed every rule they wrote.
And their big plan to collect your legally owned firearms? They can't even figure out how to pick them up. Canada Post took one look at the job and said no thanks. So they're still in the planning stages — working hard on the logistics of coming after your rifle while a terrorist gang ran wild in Canadian cities for the better part of two years.
But don't worry — they'll figure out the logistics eventually. They always seem to find the energy when it's your firearms on the line.
Amnesty ends October 30, 2026.
One thousand gunmen. Zero urgency. Unless you have a PAL card.

Let’s call this what it is: Ottawa’s gun confiscation plan isn’t about public safety—it’s about politics. Mark Carney and the government aren’t targeting criminals; they’re targeting responsible Canadian gun owners to score points in Quebec and keep their base happy.
This isn’t policy. It’s political theatre. Canadians know that taking AR-15s from law-abiding citizens does nothing to stop crime. We’re tired of being blamed and punished for the failures of others.
It’s time to stand up and remind Ottawa that rights and property matter. Our community won’t be silent.

The Canadian Shooting Sports Association stands with responsible, law-abiding firearm owners across the country.
This week, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said it best:
“Gun owners, protect your guns. Simple as that. Don’t ever give them away.”
We appreciate Premier Ford’s support for our community and his recognition of the importance of protecting law-abiding firearms owners. But we believe Ontario can go even further. Saskatchewan has already taken concrete steps to stand up for its responsible gun owners — and we urge Premier Ford to follow that example and take real action to protect our rights in Ontario.
Let’s keep advocating for fair policies that target crime, not honest Canadians. What are your thoughts? Share them below!

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s “Gun Confiscation Program” just got a big, red F—and here’s why.
A recent column by Gage Haubrich, Prairie Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, published in the Western Standard, reveals a glaring issue at the heart of Ottawa’s approach. Public Safety Canada—the department running the Liberal government’s firearms confiscation compensation scheme—has no analysis, no evidence, and no data to show the program will make anyone safer.
Here’s the kicker: The federal government has officially committed $742 million for the confiscation, but experts warn the true cost could reach $6 billion. That’s a jaw-dropping bill for a program with nothing to prove it actually works.
Law enforcement and experts are sounding the alarm. The president of the Toronto Police Association says the confiscation will have “zero impact” on crime in Toronto. University of Toronto professor Jooyoung Lee, who studies gun violence, calls confiscation programs “largely ineffective.” Dozens of police forces across the country have refused to participate.
Even the provinces are pushing back. Alberta and Saskatchewan have passed laws to block enforcement of the confiscation. Manitoba and Ontario premiers say it targets the wrong people and won’t reduce crime. Most provinces simply refuse to help enforce it.
International experience tells the same story. When New Zealand tried a similar confiscation program in 2019, violent firearm crime actually went up after guns were confiscated from licensed owners.
And Canadians aren’t buying it. Most believe cracking down on illegal gun smuggling would do more for public safety than targeting licensed firearm owners.
As Haubrich wrote: “No one is standing behind the gun confiscation. The feds can’t show that this program will make anyone safer. The police and other experts say it won’t work. International examples say it won’t work. The provinces won’t help enforce it. And Canadians don’t think it will be effective.”
Taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for a failing program that’s all politics and no results. It’s time for common sense, evidence-based solutions—not another failed experiment.

The federal government is prepared to spend billions to confiscate legally owned firearms from Canadians who have always followed the rules—hunters, sport shooters, and collectors. As highlighted in a recent interview with Saskatchewan’s Firearms Commissioner, these measures target responsible citizens rather than addressing the real sources of gun crime.
Government resources would be far better spent on stopping illegal gun smuggling, supporting frontline police, and funding crime labs to tackle firearms used in actual crimes. Penalizing law-abiding firearms owners does nothing to improve public safety.
It’s time for policies that are evidence-based and focused on real solutions.

The Ladies Range Day at Cornwall Handgun Club is BACK by very popular demand.
Thank you to our sponsors @CCFR_CCDAF / @CCFRwomen and @CSSA_CILA … we couldn’t do this without you.
The federal government’s multi-billion-dollar firearms confiscation program is running on empty—and we have the proof.
Access-to-information records show Public Safety Canada cannot produce a single internal analysis to demonstrate that its sweeping confiscation of hunting and sporting rifles will reduce crime or make Canadians safer. When asked for evidence, the department replied plainly: “No information related to your request exists within Public Safety Canada.”
Despite this, at least $742 million has already been committed to the program, and independent estimates suggest the final cost to taxpayers could exceed $6 billion. Worse yet, since the ban was introduced in 2020, violent firearm crime has actually increased—from 12,614 incidents in 2020 to 13,937 in 2022, according to Statistics Canada.
Canada’s front-line police officers and their associations have spoken out: this policy targets licensed, vetted firearms owners, not criminals. Most provinces, and dozens of law enforcement agencies, want no part of this misguided plan.
Legal firearms owners already undergo daily background checks, mandatory safety training, and strict storage requirements. Meanwhile, the real sources of gun crime—smuggling, illegal trafficking, and repeat offenders—are left untouched.
Canadians deserve public safety policies based on facts, not empty gestures. If there’s no evidence this $6 billion program will work, why are responsible gun owners and taxpayers being forced to pay the price?

At the May 2026 Canada Strong and Free Conference, Premier Danielle Smith delivered a clear and unwavering message to Ottawa: Alberta will not permit provincial agencies to enforce the federal government’s firearm confiscation agenda. Smith emphasized that the federal government’s approach is rooted in political ideology rather than any genuine effort to improve public safety. She spoke candidly about the importance of respecting law-abiding firearm owners and rejected the notion that targeting responsible citizens will make communities safer.
Premier Smith also outlined concrete steps her government is taking to defend Albertans’ rights, including proposed amendments to the Alberta Bill of Rights designed to further protect lawful firearm ownership. These amendments are a direct response to federal attempts to erode personal freedoms under the guise of public safety. By reaffirming Alberta’s commitment to stand up for responsible firearms owners, Smith sent a strong signal that the province will continue to defend its citizens against federal overreach.
Saskatchewan has also made its opposition to the federal confiscation program crystal clear, enacting significant measures to protect its residents from federal intrusion.
In contrast, Doug Ford’s government in Ontario has taken no effort to protect Ontario firearms owners from the federal government's attacks. While Alberta and Saskatchewan have been vocal and decisive, Ontario has taken no action to protect lawful firearm owners, leaving almost 1 million responsible citizens in the province without assurance that their rights will be defended.
Note: The Canadian Shooting Sports Association remains concerned about the lack of leadership from Premier Ford’s government. Ontario’s position falls well short of the robust defences put in place by Alberta and Saskatchewan, and there has still been no concrete commitment to stand with lawful firearms owners in the face of federal confiscation efforts.
