In Greek mythologies, Ariadne (daughter of Pasiphae and King Minos of Crete) aides Theseus in slaying the Minotaur before her abandonment on the island of Naxos. Later, she is variously cursed, killed by Artemis, or married to Dionysus, depending on legend.
