That 16” hard maple is holding up the rock. Anyone dare to cut that tree? The rock is square, sits on one corner, and is about 14 feet tall.

@NETimberLand I grew up south of Keene. Cruised timber for Brown one summer in NW Maine as far east as Rangley. That old mill sure stunk up Berlin and I could smell it as far east as the Mahusook trail.

@FamedCelebrity Many saw issues are of a simple mechanical nature and just figure them out, as you did. Back to the kickback matter, be sure to not cut your rakers too low. Increases chances of a kick. Use a raker gauge. West coast saw has the kind I like, a flat plate design.

@FamedCelebrity your brake issue is not clear to me, but don’t discount the value of a properly adjusted brake. I worked as a west coast timber faller and spent my life with saws. my left hand was badly mauled by a kickback accident with a pre-brake saw. It happens very fast.
