A first for the International Monitoring System (IMS): all 11 stations in the hydroacoustic network are now mission capable, every light green. With the successful repair of HA08 North, hydroacoustic becomes the first IMS technology to reach this milestone.
Very pleased to welcome @Monica_Juma_, the new @UN_Vienna Director-General and @UNODC Executive Director. She has packed a great deal into a whirlwind first 44 days at the helm, and Vienna’s multilateral community will be richer for her experience in security and diplomacy.
The @Youth4CTBT is starting a new chapter. Newly selected Steering Committee members met with @DrRobFloyd and took part in a virtual introductory session on the Treaty and its role in global non-proliferation and disarmament. We look forward to the energy and perspectives they bring to advancing our efforts to ban nuclear test explosions for their generation and beyond.
This week, at the 2026 Africa Day celebration, Intl. Monitoring System Director Xyoli Perez Campos delivered remarks on behalf of @DrRobFloyd. She highlighted Africa's resounding commitment to the #CTBT, as home to 30+ monitoring facilities and 40+ National Data Centres, and later this year as host to the Integrated Field Exercise #IFE26 in Namibia.
A milestone for cooperation. @DrRobFloyd visited Abidjan 🇨🇮 to celebrate the signing of the Facility Agreement, reinforcing the strong partnership between Côte d'Ivoire and the #CTBTO. The event also marked the 30th anniversary of the #CTBT, highlighting Africa's enduring commitment to the Treaty and its value for the continent's 52 States Signatories.
During his visit to Côte d’Ivoire, @DrRobFloyd was awarded the Order of Merit of National Education at the rank of Commander. He reflected on the honour, saying: “This award is recognition of the #CTBTO’s contribution over 30 years to science in 🇨🇮 and its work towards a world free of nuclear test explosions.”
Deeply saddened by the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela today. My thoughts and prayers are with those people and communities affected in this difficult time.
Always a pleasure to meet with UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs @INakamitsu. Our conversation reaffirmed the values and priorities we share: a strong commitment to multilateralism, to the #CTBT, and to international peace and security.
🎓 36 experts. 16 African countries. Knowledge shared. Capacity built. Mission advanced.
This week in Abidjan 🇨🇮, scientists from across French-speaking Africa came together for an intensive CTBTO training course, learning to access and analyse data from our International Monitoring System (IMS) and turning it into knowledge their countries can use.
Over five days, participants worked hands-on with real waveform data: detecting and locating seismic events, mastering NDC-in-a-Box and Geotool, while exploring how the same technology reaches far beyond its core mission.
Among them were women scientists helping to shape the #NextGen of National Data Centres in their region - expertise that stays in their countries long after the course ends.
Held with Côte d'Ivoire's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, this regional workshop for Francophone Africa aligns with our #NDCs4All initiative to ensure every State Signatory can fully benefit from the Treaty.
In the CTBT's 30th anniversary year, capacity like this is how a 🌍 verification system becomes truly global.
One Treaty. One Goal. Zero Tests. 🕊️

We welcomed the @UN_Disarmament Fellows at #CTBTO HQ in Vienna. An excellent opportunity to exchange views on the Treaty, the technical components of the verification system, and how the CTBT supports global peace & security. @DrRobFloyd had a direct message for participants: "If you want to make a difference, be brave!”
The new Permanent Representative of #Mongolia, Amb. Munkhtur Dorjraa, presented his credentials to @DrRobFloyd on Friday. The Executive Secretary thanked Mongolia’s for its longstanding support for the #CTBT and commitment to global peace and security, and welcomed continued cooperation in support of the Treaty and its International Monitoring System.
🌊 HA08 is back online.
This Wednesday, CTBTO's hydroacoustic station HA08 North sent data to our International Data Centre in Vienna for the first time in years.
The repair mission required laying new subsea cable and reconnecting a hydrophone triplet suspended deep beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean.
HA08 North strengthens the CTBTO's verification coverage across the northern and western Indian Ocean, one of the world's great acoustic corridors.
This mission was made possible by contributions from 🇺🇸 the United States and 🇬🇧 the United Kingdom, with additional support from 🇩🇰 Denmark, 🇫🇮 Finland, 🇮🇱 Israel and 🇸🇰Slovakia.
The science holds. So does the commitment.
📣 Something new launched this week.
The first-ever She Shapes Science Fellowship, supported by Italy 🇮🇹, brought together 16 women from 16 countries for an online bootcamp focused on Intl. Monitoring System data and Intl. Data Centre product use and analysis. These are mid-career scientists at National Data Centres. They came together to deepen their technical skills. They're leaving with a network, and a voice in shaping the future of #CTBTO's verification work.
A pleasure to meet with Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) Secretary General Rungrueng Kitphati this Tuesday, and congratulate him on his recent appointment. Thailand and @atomsnet are valued partners of @CTBTO. As host to two Intl. Monitoring System stations, 🇹🇭 is a key part of our verification system in the region. I look forward to our continued cooperation.
The 66th Session of the Preparatory Commission is underway in Vienna. Opening the session, Executive Secretary @DrRobFloyd set the agenda for discussions on a shared responsibility to keep the Organization operationally effective, financially sustainable, and fully prepared to carry out its vital mandate.
“We’ve done that for 30 years. Let’s do it for many, many more years to come.”
The new Permanent Representative of #Lithuania, Amb. Kęstutis Kudzamanas, presented his credentials to @DrRobFloyd today. The Executive Secretary thanked Lithuania for its longstanding support and partnership with the #CTBT for global peace and security.
🎥 Watch the highlights from @DrRobFloyd’s mission to Turkmenistan, where he engaged with senior leadership, young leaders from across Central Asia, and technical experts at the 🇹🇲 National Data Centre (NDC).
.@DrRobFloyd sat down with Vice Prime Minister Batyr Mammedov, who oversees Turkmenistan’s National Data Centre (NDC). The Executive Secretary also addressed participants of the regional Russian-language NDC training, recognising their vital contribution to the #CTBT verification system.
Delighted to meet with Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat. Wonderful CTBT@30 event with all Central Asian States, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Appreciate the region’s support for the Treaty and its Intl. Monitoring System (IMS). Central Asia’s seven IMS stations contribute to the goal of a world free of nuclear test explosions.
