Today is Day 1 of the @KCS_EPP June Intensive for Cohort 5! Got a little rest last week 🏖️, now back to learning & planning for next school year 📝! We started with the teacher code of ethics and making a curriculum map for a new course. 👏🏻
Interested in a career change? Come see me at the KCS Recruitment Fair! We are at West HS this morning till 11 am! Connect directly with principals, meet our fantastic Human Resources Team! @KnoxSchools@KCS_EPP
After 5 yrs of operating under ‘initial approval’, going through the TN Comprehensive Review & getting the State Board of Education’s final verdict last month, the @KCS_EPP now has ‘Full Approval’ status!! 🎉 Big thank you to my colleagues Alex, Judy & Janelle!!!
I got to see Mr Ellis (Culinary, AE) 🥗, Ms Campbell (Marketing, Central) 🏬, Ms Mitchell (Health Sc) Stethoskop 🩺 & Mr Quinton (AV, both Powell) 📸 in action this week. They were engaging students in real workplace problems, like running a store or taking viral signs. 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻
EPP Instructor @judy_siebert recently visited Mr Garland, Mr Graves, Ms Andrews, Mr Cox as well as Mr McMahan & Mr Blanton (not pic’d) in Knox & Claiborne Counties to see how they’re implementing in their own classrooms what they are learning in the EPP. @CTE4KCS
The last EPP Learning Day for Cohort 4 is a wrap! 🎉 Instructor @judy_siebert led the candidates through class activities and group work exploring topics around Questioning and Problem-Based-Learning in more depth. They also worked on their portfolios. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Picked up @KCS_EPP coaching visits again for the semester after several snow days caused a delay. These 3 teachers will graduate this Spring: Mr Mandell (CJ at HVA), Ms Pipkin (Health Science) & Mr Hicks (IT, Both at Bearden HS). 🎓🎉
One of our teachers, Ms Webster, leads mentors from KCS & other districts in discussions around mentoring effectively, thus contributing to new teachers’ successes in the classroom & becoming confident as CTE instructors. Teacher support through mentoring is vital for retention!!
Today was the first of three Mentor PD sessions, led by Kayla Webster! 🎉 We love our new CTE teachers and also want to support those who mentor them on a daily basis. If you missed it, join us in the Spring! 💚
@judy_siebert and I continue our @KCS_EPP coaching visits through @CTE4KCS: Mr Mandell (CJ at HVA), Ms Pipkin (Health Science) & Mr Hicks (Cybersecurity, not pic’d) and Ms Jones (Health Science at Farragut HS). All visits are followed up w/virtual coaching & goal setting.
EPP Instructor @judy_siebert visited 3 of our candidates @KarnsHighSchool recently: Mr Cox (Construction), Ms Andrews (Health Science) & Mr McMahan (AV Prod). All engaged their students in hands-on activities, which brings these trades to life! 🙂
At today’s @KCS_EPP coaching visit to SDHS & AE: Ms Rhodes going over ❤️rhythms, Mr Henry models proper sanding of a 🚙, Mr Huettel’s students check their store’s inventory 🧁 & Mr Ellis prepares his for making 🥗 dressings. Hard to motivate students sometimes but hands-on helps!
These @KCS_EPP teachers are in their 2nd yr of the EPP & working for @CTE4KCS. Ms Mitchell in Health Sc. taught the circulatory system ♥️ today & Mr Quinton in AV Prod. covered frames & angles in movies🎥 (at Powell). Ms Campbell at Central analyzed social media📱w/her students.
With our growing TNACTE membership, we are excited to introduce our newly elected Division Vice Presidents, who will represent your voices on the TNACTE Board of Directors and will help guide the direction of our organization throughout the year. Please join us in welcoming them:
Red McMahan, an AV Production teacher at Karns HS and candidate in our Cohort 5, was given the Karns “Lifelong Learner” award at a recent staff training, “exemplifying a daily positive attitude & eagerness to motivate colleagues and students.” Congrats, Red!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 @CTE4KCS
Congratulations, Ulla! The @KnoxSchools Educator Preparation Program (@KCS_EPP) is a valuable pipeline for our new CTE teachers to find their way into the classroom and to be successful!
Thank you, Georgia ACTE! Great venue and very well organized!
And congratulations to our TNACTE member, @UllaCarr, for winning the Region II Teacher Educator of the Year category! 🎉 Region II winners automatically qualify for national competition in December at ACTE Vision.
Went to @southdoylehs and @AustinEastHS for @KCS_EPP coaching visits yesterday: Ms Rhodes’ students formed muscle strands, Mr Henry’s showed me their Fair piece 👏🏻Mr Huettel’s kids run the school store & Mr Ellis taught knife safety for Cul Arts 😊
Yesterday’s @KCS_EPP coaching visits went to Powell and HVA. Mr Mandell (CJ), Mr Quinton (AV) & Ms Mitchell (Health Sc) all put their students to work with great hands-on assignments👏🏻From crime stats to cubipod to health sc. pathways, I learned a lot! And so must have the kids!!
Our @KCS_EPP coaching visits are starting: Ms Shular (Health Sc) & Ms Campbell (Marketing) at Central HS reviewed for a first quizz & worked on careers. Mr Hicks (Comp Sc) prepped his students for coding iterations & Ms Pipkin (Health Sc) dove into life stages at Bearden HS.
We are honored to be involved with this important initiative. Not only will our students gain valuable skills and knowledge, but we will also be able to do our part in supporting veterans in Knox County. #OperationHerosHill
